Ever had Problems when trying to find some good sites about a special period in history on Google?
I know that looking on Google or other search sites for something can sometime become pretty irritating (especially after you have been doing it for 2 hours)
So I decided to make this Topic, where everyone can share links to good/resourceful history sites that they know of, making it easier for people searching for information to actually find some. (And if you are looking for one, just ask here)

    But there are some rules:
    1. Do not post links to things on Wikipedia or other sites similar to it, you can post link to the actual site (ex;www.Wikipedia.com) but not something on the site (people can use the search feature there themselves).

    2. Before posting, check if the link that you are about to post is already here, I/mods will edit all links into this post in chronological order so it should not be too hard too see if it is already here.

    3. Also, before posting a URL, be sure that it is good/resourceful site (witch information you can trust).

    4. If possible, write a very short description/word about the sites content (ec; Hannibal, Roman Military System)

    5. All sites should be in English, but possible exception can be taken.
(If you are going to post a site about something, for example Hitler and you see that there is already a site about Hitler posted here, you can still post it, as long as it is not the same site.)

    6. If you find a link that doesn't work then please report it to me. (I will rep people who report dead links)

AND REMEMBER!, when writing something about "something", always compare text on a web page with other ones.

So I saw this thread stickied and was dissappointed to see the guy who had made the thread ran off. Since Im also quite a history reader I thought it would be a good idea to start all over and that I as a member of Content Staff keep the OP up to date. Ofcourse in the eventuality that I go AWOL a (local) moderator kan keep it also up to date if he wishes.

    Default Historical Books Categorized v2.0

Additional Listing of Historical Books by Category
    Original Thread

I noticed that it has been some time since the Recommended Historical Books Thread was updated, so I have taken it on myself to get it all organized. I have drawn my format from the OP by Avesta made so long ago, but changed his categories and then mined the thread for as many books as I could. As I have more time I may include links in the post to where you can buy them, but right now we will have to settle for Title and Author. Some categories will feature a particularly prolific author, and so I will have books by just that author first.

DISCLAIMER: I am an American, and an avid student of the West and its history. This means that I fully acknowledge my bias to the Western world, and so I am well aware of the sizable gaps in this list, and am particularly receptive to advice about non western history.

Here is a list of historical novels compiled by Aldgarkalaughske, if those interest you. I will be constricting this list to purely historical books as much as possible, with a notable exception to contemporary histories.

I would also like to thank the poster Switch, who recompiled the OP some time ago in Post #188. I have incorporated an edited version of his list into my own.
