After a long and grueling voyage via sea, the Austrasian diplomat Otto Kessel arrives at the port of Constantinople in a carefully crafted silk and linen robe along with several bodyguards clad with fine chainmail and wielding swords very apparently crafted by artisan smiths with years of practice; truly a sight for even the nobility to gawk at.
"If I were an American, as I am an Englishman, while a foreign troop was landed in my country, I never would lay down my arms never, never, never!"
-William Pitt
"Educate men without religion and you make of them but clever devils."
-Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington
"Gentlemen, when the enemy is committed to a mistake we must not interrupt him too soon." -Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, 1st Duke of Bronté
The Emperor himself is present at their arrival. "Welcome, esteemed guests," he says, "It is a pleasure to have you. May I ask what brings you here?"
"Salutations to you too, noble lord."
Otto motions to his guards to wait outside while he speaks to the King.
"My lord has sent me to inquire how our Easter Roman 'brothers' are holding up; and perhaps a trade agreement as well."
The diplomat then proceeds to raise his eye brow in a convincing manner.

The emperor (OOC: Assume he's still here) smiles.
"Ah yes, we are doing quite well! It is a pleasure to see that our Western brothers still care for the East. And a Trade Agreement would be wonderful."
"We most certainly do. With all the savages, heretics, muslims, and what not rising up to challenge what's left of the old empire, we really can only trust ourselves in these dire times."
The diplomat expresses his sorrow on the matter in a solemn manner.
"Wonderful! How strong of an agreement would you prefer to forge between us, sire?"

"Hmm...perhaps Level 3?"
"I think this would be sufficient for my Lord; however, if you wanted to go a step farther, we would also accept a level 4 of 5. Of course, this would also involve an alliance, at which we would gladly up hold and honor in the name of our Eastern brothers."

"We would be honored to enter an alliance with our Western Brothers once more."
"Excellent! My King shall be delighted to hear this. Let the New Roman Empire rise again, after we have dealt with out respective opposites of course."
Kessel chuckles in a low tone.
"Anyhow; what exactly is your stance on the current pope and his states, if you don't mind me asking?"

"Sadly, I believe we aren't exactly in His Holiness' best view at the moment, but I am sure it can be changed, with a bit of persuasion..."
"Hmm, indeed. I believe we would be in his graces; except he's biased his views and forged an alliance with our nemesis, the Nuestrians. Personally, my Lord wouldn't think it the end of the world if Rome burned to the ground for the umpteenth time."
Otto then winked in a wicked manner.
"Very well then, that's all I needed to know. Should you have any trouble with muslims, pirates, rebels, you name it, just let us know. It was a pleasure speaking with you, sire."
Mr. Kessel then proceeded to round up his guards and head back to the docks, of course, dreading the stranious boat ride back home.

"Have a safe journey back, brothers."
A northumbrian emmisary arrives.
He is welcomed in.
The Emmisary bows.
Most noble emperor, we have come to offer trade and friendship with the mighty Roman Empire.
"We would be willing to agree to this. But first, we would like to know, what level of Trade?"
A higher level of trade (3). However, if you wish for an alliance, then we can make more money from an advanced agreement (5)
"We would agree with an Alliance and the advanced (5) agreement."
