Is this what I need to get in order to play RS2 and other mods, since Steam doesn't work, or is there another version that is correct?

    Steam should be working.

Crashes when the loading bar is almost done loading a campaign, I've tried for hours with different things, it doesn't work.

I believe that crash has to do with the game path length.
It needs to be something short like C:/RS2.

I tried moving games out of C:/programfiles/steam/steamapps/common/ and they don't work. I can't be asked to continue trying hours to fix this, so I am simply gonna get the disk version, and I need to make sure it's the correct one so I don't have to send it back.

I do recall (and would love to be wrong) that the Anthology version (ie all 3 together) was reputed to not necessarily contain 'everything'?

I've picked up, in the past, ore than one of the 'Gold' edition containing RTW & BI. Unless you particularly want Alexander, then I'd consider that.

I bought the anthology version which has Rome, Alexander and Barbarian invasion and I am playing Roma Surrectum II just fine. It worked for me.

Which .exe works best? (Stability and AI I am most concerned with).

Alexander is the recommended exe. RTW the least.

Alright, thanks. I've ordered it, two days for RS2 and all it's glory.

A fine selection, that's the one I'm using, running with the Alexander exe.

can't you just put the cd key into steam, and steam will sort you out? I did that with M2TW and it automatically installed kingdoms for me.

Whilst I'm glad no one else was able to support the Anthology concerns; I know this one is more subjective...

Alexander (v1.9) is indeed the latest and was always reputed to be best for phalanx warfare, for which it was particularly tweaked. But BI (whilst only v1.6) has, I understand, better mechanics for the likelihood of sea-borne invasions; let alone being the only one to support 'shieldwall'.

BI does a lot of sea borne invasions but they are usually small size armies.
When the AI does it in ALX, it brings full stacks.

This shouldnt matter much with RS2 because the AI can get full stacks easily.(especially on 0 turn)

I have RS2 2.5 exe, but where is 2.6 patch exe?

Moddb has both 2.5 and 2.6 but most of the links to other fixes are dead it seems. Game still works without them though.
