As for Knight base pay, I don't think it was really scrapped, just properly split. Hedge Knights and Sworn Swords are both knights (in the sense that they both took vows of chivalry) it's just that Sworn Swords actually have a liege they are legally bound to fight for and who is in turn legally bound to support & pay them, Hedge Knights don't. I think a more apt comparison would be Sworn Sword = proper samurai with master, Hedge Knight = Ronin.

As long as other mods agree. Great canon example (incase others want to complain) Bronn (somewhat like that) keeps surronding himself with men to help after he becomes a knight.
