Perhaps something can be done with the prestige system in Empire to allow for a Confederate victory if either the south has a high enough prestige or the north has a low enough prestige by November 1864.

A very good idea, if a faction reaches a specific ammount of prestige and or a clear overweight compared to the other.

Titus, I'd actually love it if you helped me research. You're most certainly intelligent, with a strong grasp of the period, and the fact that our views differ greatly is in fact a point in our favor, as it would in essence guarantee an unbiased presentation of the material.

Alright, here's what's going on right now. I'm going to need the help of some other researchers, so I'm going to post a request thread. I'll also put the call out for modders/coders/artists.

That said ANYONE who wants to help with reseach, contact me. I don't care if your education on the civil war consists of the movie Gone With The Wind. If you want to help, or think you can, please contact me. I don't need time committments. I can work with that. I can do most of this myself, but I would like to see this mod get all the things it needs.

Remember, the quicker the research getsdone, the quicker modders go to work, and the quicker this mod gets finished. And the quicker I can vanquish yankee troops from blessed souhern soil.

I don't really agree with that we should balance the mod so that we force the conflict to drag on. If the South fights badly, the North will probably crush the rebellion in a couple months.. And there is also the possibility that the South manages to take Washington early, which would probably end the war pretty quick (I figure the Republicans would not remain in office for long, and the Democrats would surely sue for peace).

Balance the mod in terms of unit production and AI and movement rates.

Movement is based on 6 months time slots right now, we are moving the time to a week, we will have to research how fast armies could move.

I am not suggesting that the mod will make it hard for either side to win quickly, but there is many debates, but we have to consider that if we do not alter some basic things to make the game last longer, it could be very possible to end the game in the first 10 turns, which would not be fun.

I don't expect every game to last 200 turns, but I expect the average to be around 125 turns.

Because there is only two fractions we will need a much more aggressive AI, as well.

We cannot let the human player win in 12 turns or even a few months, alot of this will depend on the AI, but I think we will need to expand vicotry conditions, so from the souths prepective, take washington, take new york, take boston, take chicago, it will not be just like take washington or it will be to fast.

Remember replayability is key, this mod will not be as a good if each player plays twice, once of each side.


Anyways so I also have a bit of bad news, I have bene looking into the way the campaign maps are built and they seem to rely alot of vectors, which is bad because I cannot easily just create a new map with new regions with alot more digging. On the other hand we are not at this stage yet, so hopefully the mod tools will be out fairly soon and contain these features.

On the other hand as well, we can use the RTI for a testbed of models and such when we get to that point if the tools are not released.

I'm not sure the north would have sued for peace with the fall of Washington, not as long as Lincoln was still in control. Lincoln was not concerned with the popularity or unpopularity of the war in the north (as long as he could get troops for the army), he was concerned with saving the Union, and to do that he would have endured virtually anything.

As far as I know, Congress would have the power to sue for peace, at least in the beginning. If popularity were low enough Lincoln wouldn't have a choice in the matter. Obviously after a couple of years the war would have continued with or without Washington.

Those are actually pretty good, did you make them yourself? If you did, those could definitely be a good start. I'm going to start getting state flags and see how we can make the recruiting special units from each state thing work.
