1917 while in hospital after being injured. I think anyway.
I am still looking in on this thread on occasion to see if it fulfills its purpose of enlightenment.
And while I am here, I want you to all take heed of the impact of that terrible war we call WWI; it changed the lives of everyone at the time, and no war has created so many writers and poets. So many authors of the 1920-ies and onwards were shaped by that dreadful conflict, taking refuge or seeking solace in writing or working through their trauma by it- and so many young men never came back; Europe was broken.
Yeah you got the year, my source I was using was a bit anecdotal, in the beginning of "unfinished tales" Christopher Tolkien gave a summary of the history on each of the stories, he states that "The Falle of Gondolin" was the first one to have been written. He quoted his father as saying "I first began top write [The Silmarillion] in army huts, crowded, filled with the noise of gramophones"
Your turn.
Bump, Lortano it's your turn.
Comon guys, don't let this thread die! Since Lortano hasn't done anything, I'll ask a question just to get things rolling again.
What does Imrahil call "the greatest jest in the history of Gondor"?
It is such a quiet thing, to fall. But far more terrible is to admit it.

Oh right, I'll post one later
Being lazy so: Explain how Aragorn and Arwen are related.
Arwen is the daughter of Elrond, who is the son of Elwing, daughter of Dior, son of Luthien and Beren. Elros was the brother of Elrond, and began a line of Men, Kings of Numenor, and the Lords of Aduine, and Aragorn is a descendant in that line. ugh, that took forever.
They are both descendants of Earendil the Mariner and Elwing. Aragorn through Earendil and Elwing's son Elros, the first 4 Kings of Numenor, the 18 Lords of the Andunie, 25 Kings of Arnor/Arthedain, and 15 Chieftains of the Dunedain. Arwen through their other son, Elrond. So, they are first cousins 62 times removed.
Ecthelion got it first.
Ok.
Samwise refers to someone spotting an Ent on the north borders of The Shire in , who is this?
His cousin Hal (Halfast, as shown in his family tree in RoTK).
List three names by which Aragorn is known other than his actual names of Aragorn and Elessar.
Estel, Thorongil and Strider
