I rather doubt it was his usual garment but a ceremonial robe, the rest of teh Fellowship would kicked his ass if he tried to walk out dressed in white; it would make him a beacon haha
But then again, as general of a host, why not? Noble clothes and colours for official circiumstances, perhaps
