    Default Explosion!!

I play england. In one occasion, i send my first rate to attack 3 UP Fluytes that raiding my trade route from India. It's relatively easy battle. i've sink one and intended to board the second one. But when my ship got alongside, the fluyte exploded and i automatically defeated. IS there a way to disable explosion of naval vessel?

You could turn off fire at will when you are going to board the other ship.

    Stop using round shot.
Round shot will penetrate the hull, and therefore the magazine.
Only use round shot to knock out guns, otherwise use chain shot.
When you close to board, you should be using grape shot to clear the decks.
Sometimes a ship will just surrender before you get the chance to board.

That does make sense. Don't know why I never do that. Though, when I play I hardly play naval battles. I cannot say I am very experienced on the seas.

thanks! work great. i use chain shot to demast the ship and then close in with grape shot. but most enemy surrendered as soon as they are demasted.

    Exactly.
I generally use round shot when I am clearly out-gunned and at a disadvantage.
In IS2, round shot is more accurate than chain shot, so I usually put out a salvo at long range.
As I draw closer my subsequent salvos are continously chainshot until my enemies are dismasted.
Then I go around the dismasted ships with grape shot.
I don't bother with boarding actions much these days.
The more shooting you do, the more experience your gun crews earn which result in chevrons.
Crews with chevrons have better morale and are less likely to surrender.
Generally I will only resort to a boarding action if a particular dismasted ship is being stubborn and not surrendering.

Note, also that the larger and more powerful a ship is, the better chance you have of totally destroying a ship with a salvo. A second or third rate has more potential to sink or destroy a ship with one or two salvos than a fifth rate does, especially vs. smaller ships.
