He walked through the valley of death, and he feared none.

He stumbled over a dead branch; he felt weak. The howling of the wolves and the wind made him shiver; he began to falter. The dust and smoke began to choke him; he could not breathe.

And yet he still walked on, undaunted.

WIP. Watch this space. It'll be epic.

    No, seriously.

    Eustace Radcliffe is back.

And he's off to the Crimea. Things are about to get wild.

Volume 3 has just begun, and Eustace needs you. ...

    ~

I walked down the corridor, my head full of emotions. I needed a good nights sleep, but that seemed to be the last thing I was going to get. Opening up the envelope I checked where fate had resigned me too. I filed through the documents until one caught my eye.

    My destination.

Where the bloody hell was that.

At the bottom of the scroll was a message written by the King:

Eustace Radcliffe by order of the King you are appointed, with immediate effect, as Lord High Marshal. You letter of appointment is attached overleaf, and you act with the full authority of the King upon arrival in Crimea. You objective is to set up a trading outpost in the Black Sea by any means, in the name of the King. Should any person object to such measures, you have the authority to take punitive measures to deal with said objections.

    For God and the King!

It seemed like I was being sent off to war. The message lacked any emotion, and was no doubt written by a clerk - it was their standard style, brief and to the point.

At least now I had a destination...

Will it succeed against an immortal blessed by the

been its doom since it first marched out
    and into the Arabian deserts?

    Tooting my own horn, chaps:

The year is 1805, and Prussia, once broken in the aftermath of the brutal War of the Second Coalition, now stands on the precipice, a powerless King on the throne, and the three of the Glorious Triumviant firmly in command of the Apparatus of the State.

One driven by patriotism, love of Prussia and the Prussian people, another by a desire for a lasting peace, a Europe stable between balanced states, and yet another occupied with fearful visions of the world aflame and Prussia triumphant.

    ===============Excerpt from Chapter XXIX===============

Men started retreating from the ramparts, shouting at those in front to run faster. The footing gave away in some parts. Those in the rear watched their backs in fear as they felt the wall groaning beneath their feet. The boulders continued thudding against the walls. Tremors grew frequent and some men were thrown off, shrieking to a speedy death as the unyielding ground slam into their skulls, shattering their clenched teeth. Skulls crack open with sickening thuds. Jaws twist and snap. The death twitch in the neck whipping through their backs. No chance of prayer. No chance of final rites. Merely broken pieces of flesh and bones. Those unfortunate few who could still see and feel, watched as pieces of stone, from days long past, slowly tumble and fall--and felt those stones crunching through bones and sinew and flesh. Buried they lie, without the blessing of the living nor respect of the dead.

"Let not these invaders befoul your own sacraments and Holies. Let them not near the walls and let them die breaching it. But let us remain and let us endure so that we will continue to honor thee! Oh heavenly Zeus, might father of gods and men...

So the priests prayed. So the gods answered.

Goal: To rekindle the lost glory of Rome!

    Preview:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Winter slowly came, and with it came the bitter winds sweeping down from the Armenian mountains, where battles still raged fierce, and entire cities were burnt to the ground in the flash of an eye. In the Roman camp outside the unnamed mansio, light freckles of snow now dotted the encampment, the tents rigid in the early morning frost, the last of the jasmine flowers slowly succumbing to bitter winter’s embrace. In the atrium of the mansio, a weary eyed and tired looking Oribasius sat by a small wooden table, taking bites of a stale piece of bread and asking a slave to fetch him a pomegranate, a fruit which he was most keen on. Behind him were two of the Domestici guardsmen, stood as statues protecting the Augustus’s room, the door to which was suddenly swung violently open...
