Default Shogun 2, Vanilla, Fall or Rise?

Hey there, so I've been curious about one thing:

What kind of Shogun 2 do you find the most fun/enjoyable?

    Shogun 2 Vanilla?
Shogun 2 Rise of the Samurai?

or Shogun 2 Fall of the Samurai?

Personally I adore the Fall of the Samurai. I've been a fan of guns and western themes, and so when the West came with guns to Japan, it was like the best of both worlds came together.

Also, the gameplay of Shogun feels a lot more fluid than that of Empire Total War, giving gun-play a quick and deadly feel to it.
And the cannons... now that's love on first sight.

FOTS for me. I love the mix of traditional sword and bow with guns. Also $20 is fairly good price.

I was really torn on this one. I like all three in following order:

    Best: Fall of Samuri
    2nd: Shogun 2
    3rd: Rise of samuri

I'd actually have to go for RoTS, simply because it is without a doubt my favorite period of Japanese history, and one that rarely receives much attention in games and the like. I also love the junsatshi--for me nothing is more fun than winning a war by turning my enemy's generals against him and then subsequently persuading provinces to join me until I have no serious opposition.

Rise has to be the worse. It was totally pointless and pretty much added no diversity to what was already there.

What? are you kidding? Rise had plenty of differences, right down to how the economy worked. You had 2 different chains for markets, one promoting long term growth, and one promoting immediate benefits. The agents were changed, and units in general had much less morale so flanking and tactics reigned supreme. Also towns instead of starting off with a castle in which your units never retreated from changed how you had to plan for defenses quite a bit. The only real downside to it (especially for the 10 bucks it was) was the lack of units. But to each his own I guess.

My favorite so far has still been Shogun 2, if only for the Sekigahara mod :p.

I actually like Rise of the Samuri alot, very decent expansion pack, just that the main game and fall of the samuri are slightly better overall.

For me its Rise because of the more bloody battles and the way that the political alignment system works

Personally speaking I liked Rise the most. But they are all excellent.

I like Rise simply because I like the units. I just love the fact that samurai are excellent all round warriors but few in number, this just feels right to me. The idea of Samurai only being good at a specific thing, such as Katana but not the Bow just seems very un-samurai-like. It's like that for balance reasons of course as otherwise an entire army would be just do everything samurai in vanilla late game, but it works very well in Rise due to the size of the units and way the game is structured. I'm sure some others hated this as it meant less variety overall, but the raw amount of different units doesn't mean anything to me, quality over quantity.

The other thing I like is being able to take provinces without fight, it should always be an option imo. Surrounded 100 to 1 and I'm offering great terms for your surrender but you still want to fight a completely vain battle? Madness! Just surrender and your virtual populace doesn't need to die!

Diplomacy and cutting deals is a great option and Rise made it viable strategy and alternative to just crushing everything with military force.

    Not really. Same units basically.

Toss up between Rise and Shogun 2. Though ever so slightly leaning towards S2 (That's what I voted for) RotS was a lot more enjoyable and interesting than FotS. Shogun 2 felt the post polished of the lot, with Darthmod it made for really interesting game play. FotS was just... Guns. I've had enough of guns. My tactics haven't changed using guns ever in Total War (except in Med2 but different engine.) you make a huge line and wait. FotS being no exception, actually even more so in FotS because of all the heavy and highly accurate artillery. Rise was probably the most refreshing, Shogun 2 was probably the most interesting.

Shogun 2 without a doubt. The setting and warfare in FotS doesn't interest me and personally I found it became very dull very quickly. RotS felt very atmospheric and made the use of agents more integral to the campaign (which I also feel is one of FotS' few saving graces) but the small unit roster didn't offer much replayability. The Sengoku Jidai campaign of Shogun 2 vanilla is steeped in immersion and has by far my favourite unit pool...it was also was my first real TW love. I'm still playing it on a regular basis and don't have a bad word to say about it

FOTS for me. Vanilla was fun but that copy paste unit roster means I got no incentive to play different clans. And I hate that Uesugi, Oda/Tokugawa, Shimazu are all usually dead by turn 20, and campaigns generally play out the same way. Oh and that dreadful RD.

FOTS has its share of problems, but the pros outweigh the cons. I love the new RD and how it bands the allegiance together, I love that each campaign can turn out very different, and I love the modern vs traditional conflict. I've already played more campaigns in FoTS than I've ever played on any TW game.

Since we're talking expansions/DLC, is the Sengoku Jidai DLC pack worth it? It's currently £1.99. Ikko Ikkiki is £2.99 and Rise of the Samurai is £5.99.

Vanilla. I prefer the gun fights in Napoleon. Don't like the "engrish" or change in graphics.

Shogun 2 was the best, it was the most interesting time period and was just great. Next would be FOTS, but I'm not a big fan of the era. ROTS was waaay too political which completely ruined it for me.
