    Default DMS 3.95 HotFix Open Beta (update 2)

    ****************
    -unzip somewhere
    -Place darthmod_shogun.pack and DMS_DarthEffects.pack to your game "Data" folder which is usually in the destination:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\total war shogun 2\data

    It is fully save compatible.
    Do not use extra gameplay options (garrison/handicap) and projectile boost because they will override crucial changes of the beta.

    The beta includes:

    • Various fixes to formations for a far more poweful BAI. 2x times better.
    • Various improvements to Darth Effects especially to artillery impacts and muzzle flashes.
    • A very ugly looking vanilla blood effect removed (this related to artillery impact which is like a "blood octopus")
    • Missile Lethality slightly enhanced as requested.
    • Some acceleration values which affect even more negatively the known "vanilla Dance effect" have been improved.

    I will need the feedback so as to upload the hotfix tomorrow.

    Tried this, couldn't load my 4 turns old FOTS campaign (with DM 3.95), load screen would lock up when nearly done. Uninstalled darthmod, Installed 3.95 again without this hotfix, tried new FOTS campaign, same thing. Don't know if these two files can be responsible for that, but anyway, guess it's time for verifying game cache. Or would you recommend reinstall? Slowly I've had it with this game. Ever since the "patch" from CA, nothing but crap and even longer load times. Sorry, had to .

    EDIT: Interestingly enough, I fixed my problem by deleting my preferences. Verifying cache didn't work.

    please balance modern rifles according with historical data , give them the right rate of fire and even more accuracy ..this imo

    I just wanted to say, I really love your mod. It makes the game so much better. No more exploiting mentally handicapped ai.

    A bit about myself: I am a former pro gamer in Warcraft III and Age of Empires 2 as well as a former paid play-tester. I don't have as much free time as I used to, but I find myself playing Shogun more so than any other game. I win about 40% of my games on legendary difficulty using Darth mod on default settings atm. I will be gladly try any updates that you come out with and critique them when relevant.

    btw, I keep reading about cav being op on FOTS, but I honestly don't believe that to be true in the least. I rarely even see a need of building cav when playing on legendary difficulty. The problem I see is when you play intelligently and pick your battles, you won't be fighting on open ground very often. And when you do happen to fight on open ground, your generals and some spears seem to easily stop cav in their tracks.

    As far as artillery is concerned, I just don't use them. The reason is not because I think they are horribly underpowered like I keep reading, but rather due to the limited movement points of armies when artillery is embedded.

    Anyways I am still learning this game, so forgive me if I say something nooby.

    Hmm, had a lot of problems with the BAI on this one. Fire at will didn't seem to work well. Had units standing in formation, (with mass fire modded in for my special units), and they would just stand there. Manually ordering them to attack made them break formation and move erratically. It was generally very buggy for me

    Also, had units just stop in the middle of scaling castle walls, with half the regiment over the wall, and the other half just chilling at the base of the wall.

    Hi Lichen, you have a different approach than people like me. I try to use every unit the game offers me so I have a balanced army with options the generals in the real battles had, this is just how I like it, even if I use up space I could fill with better units. Also, since I play on H right now, there's no need to use the most effective units.

    A new update 2 is uploaded. Hope some will share opinions (70+ downloads and few comments had the previous)

    PS. Mount & Blade eh. I forgive you. I intent to buy that one. I have all Mount & Blade games.

    Also I think the reason update 1 wasn't tested much was the poster who mentioned their save game being broken by it, I know that scared me lol.

    Hi Darth....
    IMHO so far i see and feel this about the latest patch.
    1. Melee is dame near perfect
    2. i have almost 100% trianed infantry my higher end troops can you just increase the rate of fire i like others if i may say............fell that if only i could get of 2-3 more vollys before i am closed with melee infantry would be dame near perfect. Don't alter the acuarccy just make hte higher ranked and trianed troopers fire faster.
    3.Cav i know is a head ach others want it nered others don't i think it is fine Cav has always been a deadly force in not so much at times in pure impact but they often demorilised the enemy more than they hurt them.they are ok you just have to adapt and roll with the punches when they come your way.
    4.except for the missing colours since CAs latest patch the ships are awesome and behave as i like well done
    5.The new explosions from the Cannons are out of this world and the rifle smoke etc..etc...
    6.BAI and CAI good improvment over all they are getting very tricky to out manover them now.
    7.Cannon trjectory and missles dam near perfect.
    8.neal fire and such no problems here they all work fine.on that note i had some issues others have had where i select a unit rifle to move and set up at a wall etc... some would move some would not and when they set up it was at times a very unuseal way.....all i found was i had to deselect the neal or rank fire ability first then they moved perfectly.

    No number nine so far the game as most times runs awesome thank you Darth
    Most of all i love the new exsplosion effects

    Okkay a small over site i am playing FOTS since 3.9 49 turns into my campaign with as i siad latest hot fix...dam love those exslposions

    Please help with my problem not being able to run Darthmod!

    I have Steam installed to a separate hard drive S:, so the path to Shogun is:
    "S:\Steam\steamapps\common\total war shogun 2"

    I have installed in the following order:

    DarthMod_Shogun_II_v34.exe (installed to the folder above)
    DarthMod_Shogun_II_v395.exe (installed to the folder above)
    DMS 3,95 HotFix Beta Update2.zip (files unziped to .\data)

    I where able to play version 3.4 some time ago, but now when I start the game (with the loader) I do not see any DarthMod logo or anything, just a background movie with a railway bridge (or something).
    Did the latest patch change something important?

    Where did I go wrong?

    @ vitmar: There is no darthmod logo to recognize the mod. You installed the files to the correct directories, so it should already work. When you leave DM at it's default settings, you should notice, as it promotes, 1,5 times bigger unit sizes. For reference, vanilla "large" (not "ultra") line infantry has 150 men, generals 40.

    @ all: sorry I scared you with my posting, I am not even sure it was darthmod which caused my problem. Maybe darth can tell us (and me), because I am still afraid too and want to know if the beta patch might have broken my game. But honestly I cannot imagine it was those files, since I couldn't even start a campaign when I removed them. Must have been the small CA update, haven't had played since that one.

    Ok, in that case I think the install works. I also didnt think the Mod where active because my generals did only get two skill points after level up. I recall during my last game they got three points.

    i had a go with the new patch all seems good the darth effects are way cool but i dont know if its me or the mod but i lose a lot of the gun sounds when thay shot

    1. Generally CAI is behaving pretty logical till now (far away shogun oriented clans declared war on me only after i took all together 6 provincies and started pumping out some serious ships )
    2. BAI in my ~ 15 battles was pretty awsome, good response 2 flanking, AWSOME explosive shots of my armstrong guns, all in all i didnt find any wrongs so far, not even a defence bug (not moving when attacking) ocured,
    on the note of more responsive rifle units all i have to say that my 2 units of leavy inf. (4 xp) decimated a full unit of Yari Ki charging headon into them to about 20 left (starting 120 or 200 i am not shure ) so that was
    a nice rejection by the most basic inf in the game
    3. Naval battles were pretty hectic because FINALLY the AI made a few nice manouvers splitting my force, getting the most broadside guns towards my lead ship and so for, and not running to the edge of the map so far, and i dont know if that is still relevant but i didnt notice any excessive use of gunboats, to be exact Saga rushed copper plated boats, and suprised me pretty nasty with 3 copper plaited kain maro ships pownding on my city... nice...
    All in all i didnt find any noticable glitches or strange behaviour, so far so good thumbs up Darth!

    I have only one issue, and that is concerning disembarking armies. I suppose u cannot mod the viable locations for landing but maby you could do something about not being able to disembark my whole army from the ship with agents in it and all, since now when i invade someone i have to disembark the agents first than my army and ofcourse i dont get any bonuses from agents in my army that way, and that proved 2 be pretty nasty in some situations where i invaded that way and god swarmed by 2 -3 armies and didnt have the edge of my (veted) agents in my army... just plain anoying, maby i am missing something...?

    I apologise for my bad spelling, well english is not my first language as u might have noticed ...
