Are the Scots Retarded?

In my latest English Campaign, (6.3, Savage A.I, H/H), The Scots have really got no clue what there doing

I always have some boats stationed at the Port in London to repel Pirate Attacks or suspected invasions, and while I'm happily conquering Ireland, the Scots come along and siege my port. However, this fleet looked like it was bound for France, and mainly to capture Antwerp, as it had a massive amount of units on board. Being England, and with a mighty economy early-on, I had a pretty strong Navy and easily defeated the fleet, destroying Scotlands only Army.

The really stupid thing is, I had a army fortified just outside Edinburgh, and another army en route from the recent conquest of Ireland, so this meant that the poor Scots were steam rolled in a matter of six turns. Surely they must look at the army outside Edinburgh and use there common sense and not start a war, so, answer my question!

Yes, they are role playing themselves well.

Although being English u may wish to take my opinion with a pinch of salt :p.


The ai is well known to have flaws, watching the hre is out n out depressing.

Yeah, the Scots just have no chance unless you are playing as them. Although, one time I did see them push the English back. Until the English finished their war with France and then proceeded to beat the crap out of Scotland.

In my game (although I am using SS 6.4) the Scots pushed England out of well, England
And they got a foothold in Normandy too.

The Scots always send a massive army to take Bruges. Or if they can't take it, (they are beaten, or English take it first) then they'll go for Groeningen (which is also popular target for Norway, at least in early era)

My current campaign they have managed to conquer all of Britain and most of Scandinavia, quite interesting to see. (Playing Kingdom of Sicily myself)

I have experienced this in all of my ss campaings. Scotts always send their only army to bruges or antwerp leaving all their original lands under threat. In my English campaing i easily took edinburgh after that william wallace came out and i made an easy siege defend against him and he was dead 2 turn after he came out. So yes scottish ai is really makes retarded moves.

yeah, they are at Brugges indeed, im playing as holy roman empire, i've taken brugges, and that army is standing here like 50 turns already lol. just doin nothing.

In my campaigns after William Wallace appears they can even get to York or Nottingham, and they usually conquer one Norwegian settlement if Norway is sucky this save and a few more (up to three or four) around Brugges.

anyway, back ontopic: yes, they are retarded, when I was playing as the Byzantines (M/M) they sent a single ship to block Corinth's port, wtf ?

He appears when you take Edinburgh (and hold it for 1-2 turns without destroying Scotland, I think)

I remember my campaign were I was England too and conquered Scotland but didn't get faction destroyed report. I thought where the hell they have gone and when I sent my spies to little scouting missions I found they had good control (about 3 regions) in Norway. I forced them to my vassal and then helped them to conquer Denmark

the ai loves using its fleet to randomly attack the players ports.

im at war with almost the entire world in almost all my games because of this....

Use Soulson's AI to change the naval blockade , but also umm the scottish invasion terms are naval orientated otherwise they wouldnt leave the british isles IFAIK

its strange in vanilla was AI brutally retarded and freezed. never used ships to move with armies on some island. and now? now they using them rly weird in my campaign i saw massive army moving by Aragon, Genoa and Moors. but i never saw Ai use ships on crusade or jihad. and how can u see Ai very often freeze with armies in ships on ,,lakes'' example in Novgorod, Fatimids etc whereever u can hire some mercenary ship and they use very weird mini-forts. they ,,defending'' borders with big army in forts while enemy besieging their city so wtf ? this mod is great improve of medieval but with great imrpoves came great AI problems. pitty.

Strat AI is difficult to to create in such a way that it is able to mimic human play because humans can think and react, the AI cant. thus why they get mad stackspam from money scripts that end up with you fighting endless stacks of spear militia.

and edit: do u see the norweigan fort ? btw they are there already maybe 25 turns since when lost Groningen. and one more strange fail. I has been excomunicated and pope attacked me so i took him Pisa. than i decided be mercy and let him Rome so now he is my vassal. i assasinated this old pope for new choosing. i am still excomunicated after 15 turns, 3popes assasinated, 2 my kings was about 70 years old when so they died very quickly. and now tell me where is problem ?
