Default Creating vassals, who will they side with? [FOTS, post RD]

Has anyone figured out how to determine what allegiance will a newly created vassal have? It seems, this does not depend on the % of the population supporting one side or another. I've had provinces with 70%+ supporting emperor allying with Shogun (the very turn they're vassalized) and vice versa.

Is it random? Does it depend on the history of the province?

The painful part about this is: if you create a vassal and he turns out to be of the wrong allegiance, your allies will turn on the vassal the very next turn (post RD). And the vassal will declare war on you too...

Wait so newly created vassals don't automatically adopt your factions allegiance?

    That's new to me @_@

Nope, playing as Imperial Satsuma, I've had my vassals turn out to either support the emperor or shogun the very turn they become vassals. I can only see their allegiance choice after I release them as vassals. That's a shame since I would not vassalize them if I knew they'd support Shogun (and declare war on me the very next turn).

I've had the same problem - I suspect if you 'prep' them by converting them first you have a better shot at them joining you but I really don't know. It seems fairly random.

I've noticed that vassals change at the END of their next turn it seems. This means that post RD all opposite vassals have either their diplomacy pass and declare war on you/someone before they switch. This basically means any shogunates you make vassals post RD are useless.

Not really, I have successfully created pro-empire vassals out of shogunate's provinces. Just sometimes it works, sometimes not. You can see the new vassal's alliance immediately after you vassalize them. If they are from the opposing faction, they declare war on the next turn.

All pre-RD vassals I made, whether I slaughtered them and razed their lands or forced them to become my vassal went to the same allegiance I guess it also depends on what Temperament they have.

    Never vassaled post-RD.

If we're talking FOTS that is.

Yes, FOTS vassalization post RD. I vassalize post RD to boost my trade income and keep admin expenses in check.

In S2, btw, post-RD vassals are far more reliable than the ones you create before RD.

It's really a good idea liberating post RD, you get trade and they actually go conquering your enemy. In my Satsuma campaign i had vassals going by sea to actually conquer the northern provinces.

About the allegiance, only liberate those the same as yours. They seem to retain the allegiance they had in the first turn of the game. To check that, at the begining of a campaign click the objectives tab under the map and you'll see the doted provinces belonging to your allegiance.

Anyway, even if you liberate an oposing-team clan, they'll most likely declare war to you the next turn and you cand quickly erase their 2generals-2milita army and conquer the province. The gain here is another fight, more experience for your general.

In FotS post RD do not turn clans opposite in allegiance to you into vassals. It will only cause headache and force you to repeat the same fight.
