Icon5 Current state of Sengoku Jidai campaign?

I was just wondering what the Sengoku campaign plays like with DMS v3.95.

I had a great game going with v3.3 before the forced CA patch completely smashed my game to pieces. I've been waiting to start up a new one due to the endless new bugs with DMS caused by the patch.

How does the Sengoku campaign play now? Are there any major issues aside from the unit_tables still not being changed? Any weird repeated bugs still occuring?

Is it worth me waiting further for v4.0?

    Thanks in advance.

It could be worth waiting for 4.0. Then again, there will be a 4.01 hotfix, and a 4.1 release because Darth just found something new to do

Imho, 3.9 played well, 3.95 should be as good.

Waiting for the next release... well, there's always a new release around the corner, so it's up to you

A lot of changes are missing, but it is still fun for me overall. The AI is not such a huge cheater for example, which is my biggest complaint against vanilla. But besides that, a lot of changes are missing. It doesn't crash constantly anymore though, so that's good.

I'd really like to try FotS but I just can't justify spending that much on what is, essentially, a game I already own...

Well as the creator of the mod I cannot really find all these "a lot things missing". These that miss are mainly:
    *Special unit costs
*Special unit recruitment options and upkeeps
    *Special character traits
*+2 instead of +3 bonus per character upgrade
    *Increased Ship movement points

These are 5% of the tons of things added in DarthMod, insignificant comparing to the overall BAI and gameplay improvements.
Yes the CA patch wounded DarthMod but it remains a Beast. Enjoy.

Have to agree. The game plays great with the mod as is.

There are websites out there that sell legit steam keys for games. I paid $15 NZD for FotS (i gues thats baout $12 US). Registered fine to my Steam account.

I'm on my first full campaign(after several initial "noob" blunders = restart) using DM since I purchased the game and it's really enjoyable so far.

I have a few issues occasionally with BAI bugging out... one to three units in a large AI army will sometimes just stop moving or reacting to anything I do. As far as campaign, on Hard, AI is pleasantly aggressive so far, but not over the top. It's still early in my campaign, but games running like a champ with DM, not a single crash or lockup as of yet.

Hey darth i already asked this in another mod and got the sentence you jsut said saying you cant find a lot of things like special unit recruiting and stuff. I'm not complaining jsut curious as to what happened. in the 3.9 beta i was able to recruit special samurai in 1 turn but every patch before and after i had to wait 2 turns. how did it change so quickly?

Sorry I'm not darth, but these changes you miss are embedded in a data table which caused wrong sounds when certain bow units fired, namely rifle sounds. This was quite irritating, so darth has to not use these files until there's a solution, something like that

I would honestly rather have all of this and just put up with the sound being wrong.

    *Special unit costs
*Special unit recruitment options and upkeeps
    *Special character traits
*+2 instead of +3 bonus per character upgrade

Just finished a Sengoku campaign as the Takeda and really needed the extra bonuses for the cavalry. I'm starting a Gempei campaign and it's obvious without the cav bonuses Darthmod gives, the Cav units in Sengoku need to be like the Genpei (Allowing Cav to switch out weapons). It's ridiculous Takeda cav to be taken out by lowly Ashigaru units. Just not historically accurate at all.
Until the matchlock units arrived in Japan, Cavalry ruled the battlefield. Why? Because a Cav unit wouldn't rush spearmen but rather would have stood off at a distance and picked them off with their bows. Most samurai were trained with all weapons, Naginata, Spears, Bows and Katanas and switched out weapons during the course of a battle.

Is the cavalry that weak without the special unit changes? Last thing I remember is cavalry, especially katana cavalry, owned everything except spear and naginata units.

It is perfectly playable in its current state even with the lacking\missing Darthmod specialities. AI and overall gameplay are still as they are in DMS. Only thing that can get truly annoying is the fleet movement range IMHO.

If you ask me cavalry is something between random and ok and utterly broken, mostly when it comes to how AI can pull all kinds of interesting stuff from it. I don't care how mothering badass super samurai you are, if say katana\yari cavalry are charging into a yari wall and take 1\4th of the unit manpower down with them before they even begin to take any casualties, something's not right.

Even more bizarre is that sometimes AI cavalry is working quite fine and it follows (mostly) the same rules human player does, but then meet AI Mary Tzu-Sama that breaks reality as it wants and most of them can't really be justified by experience\general rank, as sometimes green cavalry under 0-rank general trashes your line without trying, then comes a "fair" fight with competent AI general and crack cavalry and they get their own arse handed to them as one would expect in "charge straight into a tight wall of pointy sharp objects."

I stopped making Katana Cav units during that campaign. Just wasn't worth the cost and upkeep for a unit that takes forever to break an unguarded bow unit, is not as strong against other cav units and whose only use seems to be chasing down broken enemy units. Even with all the bonuses the Takeda gets the unit is still not worth it as the enemy mostly makes Yari ashigaru units.

I finished a campaign with Takeda last (59 turns on Hard!) and found the cavalry to be adequate. For the longest time I just used Light and Bow cavalry and it worked just fine to soften up defenders and take out exposed archers. Then when the other factions started making their own cavalry I started making all the rest to take the enemy's cavalry. Now I know what Kino feels about the Katana cavalry, but they worked great for me when repeat charging them into infantry and assaulting enemy cavalry.

Anyways, I would really like to see DM go back to the good old days of 3.4, as I have to run the old beta 3.9 in order to get back the special units.

I suggest a complete re-install as it is described here: How to install properly
Because some issues I read here are issues of old versions.

Ok then I need that v 3.9 Beta version.

I'm just not enjoying Shogun II as much with Darthmod not completely functioning. It feels like playing the game at half potential, and since a campaign takes over a week to finish I really don't want to start another one until its fixed.

The battles are much better then playing vanilla but then the units are not working as they should, Generals are not leveling properly either, and naval battles are a waste of time to play out.

I'm not knocking the mod - Some battles are on the verge of awesome. It's just I only started Shogun II a few months ago after getting a new pc (some of the options of which I purchased just so I could play this game) - being a lifetime lover of Japanese history, and only been playing this mod for a month now, and have been waiting and waiting for it to be fixed so I can experience the full
    Darthmod game.

Where can I download the v 3.9 Beta?
