I don't think they really share any similarity to the north other then the fact that the hill tribes are first men like the northmen. Also when I read aSoIaF I always thought of The Vale as Ireland/Wales. The culture and history have a lot of similarity. Furthermore in the GoT tv show many of the actors use their irish welsh accents wheras elsewhere in the series (Rickon, Joff) efforts have been made to supress them. This makes me feel that a lot of people interpreted the vale in this way. In purley gameplay tearms we don't want 90% of the factions (all but starkies and martell) using the same accent, using this accent adds depth to the gameplay.

You have to bear in mind that this is a collection of peoples interpretations of the text. Like in the TV series everything might not be exactly as you remember it, each section of the mod will be represented by that persons interpretations. that said if there was some sort of up cry against using irish/welsh voices for the vale I would ofc pull that decision but so far people seem to be in favor.

If you still need Northmen I've signed up for this. I'm from Cumbria so I shouldn't have a problem doing any Northern voices.

Just wanted to say brilliant work, and very exciting project!

I've sent Sam a pm about my interest to participate as a voice actor, from Sweden but don't have a natural 'nord' accent, so I'll gladly try any roles vacant.

Just registered to say that. Cheers!

I might be able to do some voice-work, I'm 18 and from Scotland (Glasgow) but (not to flatter myself) my accent isn't that rough/common sounding, more of a subtle Scottish accent. It's up to you guys though

Quick question, why do the First Men have Northen English/Scottish accents to begin with? A Song of Ice and Fire is American, and I think its worth considering that GRRM imagined the First Men not speaking (the Old Tongue) with a northern english or scottish accent, but a downright midwest-american one. I'm just saying it's something to consider. But this mod is going to be amazing no matter what. Terrific work guys. I am in your debt.

I would think it's because the factions are built from different countryfactions, Starks are Scotland, Lannister England and such. Also im under the impression that most of the active WTW followers are Europeans.

sorry but the author may me american but the world of ASOIAF is clearly based on War of the Roses era Britain, there were never any steel knights or households competing for the throne in America, even HBO realised this by casting mostly british actors in the tv adaption

Like Gazzer said GRRM even stated that he was inspired by the war of the roses. There are many real world parallels one can draw- I mean, just compare the shape of Westeros and Great Britain:

Sure, there are differences- But mirror the map of britain and you practically have the map of westeros; Especially the southern parts would match up.

    Shhhhh!

While the map was inspired by britain, dorne was inspired heavily by spain- Though with a lot of other influences. The best works of fiction take some inspiration from the real world.

also if we were to flip the map, the Ireland would be Essos xD

Fine, then only flip the mainland! -And the isle of man suddenly becomes the iron islands. How fitting.

I think westeros is just an amalgamation of the british isles, with scanadanavian and spanish parts (iron isles and dorne)

Surely Westeros is based heavily upon Great Britain, and the War of the Five Kings and the War of the Roses are strikingly similar. All I was saying is that I find it interesting that everyone always jumps to British/Scottish/Irish accents for the men of Westeros. I mean while GRRM drew heavily upon British history, geography, and middle age culture, the world of A Song of Fire and Ice is a fantasy world of his own making. I can't imagine Robb or Jon speaking in a scottish or northern english accent, especially given the dialogue throughout all of the novels. Maybe that is just midwestern-American bias, but as an American and avid fan I think it's worth considering. Again, sweet mod and thanks to all of you who are putting in the time and effort to make this all happen. Can't wait.
