No, your eyes aren't cheating you, fellow TWCers! This is the sign-up thread for GIMP Basics Course II that I'll be leading.

The Course - Short Description

• The course aims for providing the students with a wide knowledge and skills of basic GIMP techniques. After the course you should be able to create your own avatars, signatures and perform many kinds of image retouching; perhaps even something like the banner above.

Requirements

• GIMP - a free image manipulation program
• Some free extra material (such like fonts and brushes) - more on this later
• Access to an image upload site, such as ImageShack
• Some free time...

Course Plan

• Lesson 1: Getting started (playing with colours and contrast)
• Lesson 2: Removing the image background
• Lesson 3: Avatars & signatures
• Lesson 4: Creating a simple abstract wallpaper
• Lesson 5: Creating text
• Lesson 6 and Final Exam: Creating a simple wallpaper

Additional notes - please read!

I. Basically, 30 students can be taken in. The course consists of six lessons. The lessons vary in complexity and you'll have, say, 4-7 days (depending on the difficulty of the lesson) to finish your work on each of the lessons. So, the course should finish by the end of June.

II. The course may be difficult but it certainly is instructive, and thus I would like to see only highly motivated students. There are lots of people interested in this course, so I'd like to teach the most potential of you.

III. I'd preferably like to teach students who will benefit the community from this course - such like modders - or just creative artists.

IV. A third GIMP Basics Course can be arranged if the level of interest stays high enough, so this won't, most likely, be your only chance - thus, please consider if you really have to take the course at this point - perhaps you can leave room for more motivated students.

V. The third course will - if arranged - contain a bit different course plan so you might take that into account as well. This course contains more, well, what should I say... Studying different techniques by "scratching" for example - GIMP Basics III might just be a bit more about image-touching than this, going into more detail on that area.

VI. This course, by many parts, follows the excellent example Astaroth has offered us with his GIMP Basics Course (I).

VII. As the professor I aim for giving the students a wide knowledge of basic GIMP techniques. The syllabus, or course plan, is intended to accomplish that ambition as well as possible. You will learn how to do do some colour adjusting, how to create your own avatars and signatures as well as lots of other useful things.

VIII. It's recommended to have a little experience of GIMP, so I don't have to start right from opening the program and such. Please don't bother if you really are an experienced user of GIMP - I won't choose you.

IX. I reserve the right to choose the students in the end.

X. I am the ultimate leader of the course, taking my orders from Hader himself.

I'd like to have at least ten students more before launching the course, as not everyone will complete the course, I'm sure. If you have friends of high potential (e.g. modders) you may ask them to join.
