    Campaign Introduction Mini-Guides

These mini-guides should help you get your campaign started or to convey what sort of scenario a particular campaign provides. As everything else in this sub-forum, it is a work-in-progress!

On an additional note, videos such as the Hosokawa introduction made by wealthmonger below are an excellent way to quickly explore all relevant aspects of a clans' stating position.

    Ukita

The Ukita control Bizen and Mimasaka provinces. Their vassals, the Akashi, control Bitchu province. They are allied with the Sugihara of Inaba and Tajima provinces. They are on good terms with the Kasuya of Harima province.

The initial concern is the Kikkawa and Hoki province, which neighbours Mimasaka province. To ensure effective protection of Mimasaka, move the army deployed outside of the fortress to the fortress.

In Bizen province, there is another Ukita army. It is led by the daimyo Ukita Hideie. There is no immediate concern near Bizen, so these forces can be used in the fight against the Kikkawa.

Bizen province is an excellent point of recruitment for the Ukita, as it has three recruitment points per turn – one due to the province being owned by the Ukita, another due to the province being the Ukita capital, and another due to a province-specific effect.

Finally, there is the matter of the Sugihara-Hosokawa war. If the Kikkawa can be quickly removed from Hoki, the Ukita can then move into Inaba province to support the Sugihara. If the Hosokawa manage to destroy the Sugihara, quickly conquering Inaba and Tajima provinces saves the Ukita from waiting for the provinces to convert to the Toyotomi.

    Shinano-no-Sanada

Your initial move should be to besiege the castle of Hida province (its fortress is closest to North Shinano province and Ueda castle). Instead of assaulting, simply maintain a siege and allow them to sally out in their turn.

Once you have defeated the Kanamori, start recruiting in both North Shinano and Hida. Move as many forces from Hida into North Shinano to help in the defense against the Asano, who will be attacking very soon. Before ending your first turn, be sure to make as many trade agreements as possible.

During the second turn, the Asano will move their army closer to Ueda castle. Simply commit to recruitment this turn.

At this point, you might outnumber the Asano force, making a defensive siege unlikely. Nevertheless, there shouldn't be much of an issue against the Asano. Once their main force is defeated, they should be willing to become your vassal to end the war. This stabilizes your position on two of the five fronts of North Shinano.

Kozuke-no-Sanada may not attack unless provoked, however the Kyogoku of South Shinano will attack regardless of whether you provoke them.

    *still developing this*

    Spoiler for Rewritten from this
First you you need to do is assault higo(dont conquer it yet) let them sally from the castle fight the battle and win it. gratz you got higo, now build up your forces since the asano will be attacking you. make alot of trade agreements.(end of first turn)

2nd turn the asano moves their forces closer to you, what you do is simple you build other units and wait for the asano in your castle and defeat them in the third turn, for now just recruit units and do nothing.

3rd turn the asano attacks you, you defend your castle, and now you move all your men out of Ueda and attack the asano, as soon asd you defeated the asano you make them your vassal.(now you have a stable position.

Remember the kozuke no sanada wont attack you unless you give them a reason, but south shinano will attack you in a matter of turns.

4th turn pull your army out asano territory and get back to ueda to defend it from south shinano.(keep recruiting units)

5th turn you do nothing replenish your troops upgrade your territories and gain more troops.(funny sidenote is that you do not have to recruit alot in higo the otani are your ally and with a couple of turns you can make an alliance.(so focus everything for the moment on Ueda and South Shinano.

6th turn you still recruit troops, improve territory.

7th turn you go into south shinano territory and get their castle, now you have 3 castles. with the west secure now(well not if it is fukushima bordering your territory I had Ishida bordering my territory). you can focus on the uesugi, the note here is that you just kill their armies you do not launch campaigns into their territory because you simply can't afford the troops and money.

8th turn keep being on friendly terms with the kozuke no sanada, and watch the asano conquer the south.

9th turn increase your territory and troops you have 2 positions to defend, Ueda and South Shinano, defend them well.

I hope that this guide helps you guys all out.

    Hosokawa

Hosokawa start on hard difficulty. Turn 1 pick the art you want to start with, I chose Chi. *Raise taxes to very high* then take your entire force and attack the sugihara forces in Tajima. If the samurai retainer stays in the castle then shoot them with arrows at about medium range while your archer is inspired by your general(takes time and patience). If they leave the castle, have your general run them around while your archers fire on them. Then move your archer to the side of their archer and fire off any remaining arrows. If you run out of ammo then have your yari ashigaru climb the walls so you can take the castle undamaged. If done like this casualties should be minimal.

    If done carefully
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Send your entire force towards the last Sugihara province, Inaba. Recruit 2 yari ashigaru in your capitol and 1 in Tajima and queue a harbour in one of your provinces.

Turn 2 *lower your tax rate back down to normal* and tax exempt Tajima. Move one unit from tango to tajima. Attack Inaba, "Ambush" your forces have been taken by surprise. However you have 4 units and they have 4 units(if they don't ambush then siege them or wait for more troops then do so). I would suggest putting your yari ashigaru in spearwall while flanking them with your general and bow ashigaru. Casualties will vary but you should be able to win without losing any units. Try to lose as few bow ashigaru as possible. Then attack Inaba, defeat the samurai retainer with arrows(remember to have your general inspire your archers whenever possible). Queue 2 units in Tango, 1 unit in Tajima and 1 unit in Inaba. You can tax exempt Inaba this turn or exempt it on the next turn. Move your general and bow ashigaru back towards your capitol as Kinoshita and Bessho will soon turn on you. Make trade agreements with any neighbors that are willing. As soon as the harbour is finished start sending trade ships to the trade nodes. Once your at war with Bessho and Kinoshita, remember to check diplomacy. In my case Bessho was willing to become my vassal allowing me to easily defeat Kinoshita.

    Higo-no-Kato
You start allied with Kuroda who have Buzen and Bungo. Kobayakawa with Hizen and Tsukushi is above you, Shimazu with Satsuma is below you and Hongo with Hyuga and Osumi-all toyotomi supporters.

A possible start to your Kato campaign. Hard difficulty, long campaign.

Turn 1- Queue 1 yari ashigaru in Higo, choose an art then move all units inside your castle. Move Kato Kiyomasa, 2 YA's and 1 BA just below the Tsukushi border. Attack Kobayakawa by having Kato and your bow ashigaru separate from your other units and move toward Hizen.

Turn 2- Attack Hizen with Kato and your BA(separate Kato to siege), eliminate the defenders with arrows. Beware with this castle type the samurai retainers might move outside of the castle. Then join Kato with your BA.

Queue 1 unit in Hizen, 2 units in Higo. Send the rest of your forces to attack Tsukushi first combining them with the 2 YA's. Trade agreements with Kuroda and Hongo. Shimazu might declare war(Don't worry as it will take them several turns to get to you).

Turn 3-Tax exempt Hizen, Queue 1 unit in Hizen and move your BA inside Hizen, Queue 2 units in Higo. Siege Tsukushi with Kato, move the rest of your forces to reinforce him. Move 2 units in Higo towards Hizen(optional). Kobayakawa sallies.

Turn 4-If their was any Kobayakawa survivors then take the castle. You now have 3 profitable provinces. You should then turn your attention to Shimazu and Hongo. Also use the Hizen port to secure the trade nodes.

The Li Mini guide! ( Tested on Hard; Ongoing Campaign )

Basic Information on the Li Clan
    Damiyo: Li Naomasa
Starting Province: Musashi (No Resource Bonus)
Clan Specialty: Better Cavalry (Not sure if its a stats thing or lower upkeep)
Military Alliance: Tokugawa Clan, Honda Clan.
    Vassals: None
Geo-Political Situation: Friendly Tokugawa Clan to Musashi's West,
Friendly Asano Clan to the North-West
Friendly Sanada Clan to the North
Friendly Honda Clan to the South and Immediate East
Potential Enemy Clan in Shinano-no-Sanada in Kai.
Hostile Clan in Naoe Clan which neighbours Honda Clan to the East.

Aim: Western Flank is secured with the powerful Tokugawa Clan to the West. To keep an eye on the North on the Shinano Sanada Threat should they overcome Asano. To help out the Honda Clan in their likely war with the Naoe.

Li Clan starts in a wonderful position as Li is surrounded by potential allies and have their Western Flank virtually secured by the Heavily Fortified Castle that Tokugawa possesses. To create a powerful alliance with the Honda Clan is the right thing to do not only historically but also in its practicality. The Early game should be spend on trying to wipe out the Hostile Uesugi, Naoe Clans and with the aid of friendly Tokugawa Clans like the Date, Honda to Consolidate control of Northern Japan under the Tokugawa Banner.

Turn 1: With only 500 gold in the treasury, grab a Yumi Ashigaru to supplement your Garrisoned Force. Unlike a good number of other clans, there is no civil wars to deplete your force. Remember to move everyone abit to prevent the Fog of War from covering up and everything.

Research the Bushido Line as we want some tasty Cavalry action ( A Strong military is prudent in Sekigahara as after all the Sengoku Jidai was all about being the strongest warlord. Treaties mean nothing in the face of overwhelming power.)

Turn 2: Consolidate a Trade Agreement with the Honda Clan and attempt to trade with the Tokugawa. Ignore the North for the moment as Asano will likely sent an Aggressor force to try to take out Kai.
Two Options is present here. 1) To betray Asano in order to gain control of superior Warhouse province
    2) To consolidate Strength in anticipation with the war with Naoe.
I went with 2 as i did not want to over extend myself to the North just yet.
Recruit 1 Yari Ashigaru and 1 Akazone Light Cavalry. The Calvary is to give you more options and maneuverability on the battlefield. These Cavalry has Kisho Training so dont mistake them for your Vanilla Light Cavalry!

Turn 3: It is very likely that the Naoe has declared war on Honda. Now the thing is that you want Naoe to take Shimosa so that you can jump into the fray and "liberate" Shimosa which will be easily taken as the Naoe forces will take a huge hit taking Shimosa. Shimosa is important to anybody who wish to foray to the west as the roads from Musashi goes through the Province and will make it much easier to move your forces around. Recruit 2 more Yumi Ashigaru in preparation for your liberation campaign. Asano should not have fallen yet so your North is secured (for now)

    Things to do after that.
    1) Consider at least upgrading one of your castles to hire the upper echelon of Ashigaru Troops. The Long Yari Ashigaru are INCREDIBLE on the defense and make excellent garrison forces. Naginata Ashigaru makes good Shock troops with their high attack.

    2) A Yari Dojo is good too. Yari Samurai are pretty cheap and abit more expensive to upkeep and will add more punch to your force.

The Bridge over the River in Shimosa province makes an excellent Choke point against the Naoe Clan.
This is the result of a bridge battle against said clan.

    Date

The start of a Date, long campaign(fairly aggressive)[I may have edited out a little to much]

After this I immediately went after Fukushima but that was very harsh. I would recommend you gather more troops first or go after another target.
