I'm still as socially conservative as they come (or at least I think so - I think the fact that I'm against the death penalty pushes me further towards the libertarian side in the quiz's mind) but I guess my economic views have shifted. It's weird because I'm definitely not a socialist, but I guess I can't really call myself a capitalist anymore either. I like the idea of distributism but I can't see any way to implement today.

Theoretically, I like a certain degree of socialism, but I wouldn't identify myself as a socialist.
At least, not in the classical sense.

But I realized not long ago that if I had been alive during the 30's, I would've been easily a part of the Communist Party of the time.

    Figures,

A little different than I thought, but I guess the economic questions did it for me also.

I consider myself a lot more libertarian than this compass places me, but it asks a lot of questions about personal beliefs and such which I am very socially conservative on, but don't want to necessarily make law. For example, I imagine saying that I strongly agree that sex outside marriage is immoral adds authoritarian points, but there's no real reason it should, because I'd be completely against making laws about it, it's just a personal belief.

It's strange, I'm actually pretty tankie now but the compass still puts me deep in the green.

Maybe it just really wants me to try Marijuana.

yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one?

^As I recall, it's hard-leftism with shades of authoritarianism. IIRC the term was first coined to describe British Communists who were all for the Soviets stomping on Hungary '56 or Czechoslovakia '68 (or both), forgot which.

My views haven't changed from those outlined in the profile in my signature, though those views were a significant change from the much further-right & Confederate-sympathizing (I know, unbelievable ) me of 2008-10ish.

Well, we all grow, continuously, until we die.

Though, it's interesting to note how when I look at Barry's political profile, I find myself agreeing with a lot of it to certain degrees, even though we're on pretty different parts of the spectrum.

It often seems as if it's not really "left vs right" and so on, but more like "the competent vs the stupid" and the competent come from all angles.

I don't even want to go into some of the BS I used to spout on this forum.

    You said some repugnant .

Then again, so did everybody else. Don't feel bad about it, everybody has stupid opinions when they're young. The problem is with people who don't change their mind with time.

I liked Fascism too. Mostly because I wanted everything organized and rigid, and the uniforms were cool.
I was never very religious though.

Edit: Maybe the "catch-all" similarity here is that we are on a "Total War" forum?
I'm guessing all of you have been playing these kinds of strategy games since you were 11 or 12, just like me.
Which would suggest that we are a... "certain kind of people"?

Probably so. I look back then and I'm like "...wow."

This is a poster that I had hanging on my door when I was like 14. My parents should have been concerned.

I agree, I know I spent many a night as a kid deciding how best to, conquer all of Europe as Germany, build the largest armada known to man, or crush the last vestige of opposition against your raging army .

When I was 14 I kind of a fascist, but less Nazi views, more military fascism, sort of a fascist/right wing Conservative mix.
including a pessimistic view of human nature, support of rule by a political elite, strong nationalism but with the maintenance of rights of personal property and defense.

Heck, I also though it would be cool if the Roman Empire was reborn. We were all young and dumb once, it's all part of growing up and maturing.

Although I am native to Texas, home to gun nuts, border-sealers and talk-radio charlatans, so a lot of this is normal here. Sometimes it almost seems like it is a different country.

Just to clarify, I was never into Nazism, or any even remotely racist ideals.
I just liked the uniforms. Really.
