This is a similar challenge to the Luxembourg mauser posted here a little while ago, but with far more obscure visual clues. A bit of reading should narrow the possibilities down. I've chosen to put it up because it has a very interesting history.

..... a bit surprised no-one's had a guess yet! It is basically what it looks like and there were 3.4 million of them produced according to wikiP.
Japanese rifle Type 38 Arisaka 1905 year.
The Arisaka rifles are named for Colonel Nariakira Arisaka, who headed a commission during the 1890s which was charged with developing a new rifle to replace the earlier models such as the Murata. The Arisaka rifles were designated with the year of the current emperor's reign. Thus, the Type 38 rifle was designed in the 38th year of the reign of Emperor Meiji (1905).

Yes, I'm going to pay the Type 38 Arisaka rifle, as this is what it is. More specifically it is a Chinese Shanxi 6/5 Arisaka made under license by the Taiyuan Arsenal in Shanxi Province. I think the thread would drag on too long it I held out for the specific answer. The visible difference is that the Japanese Type 38 has a stock made from two pieces of wood with a faint but visible line running through horizontally about midway - and although this is a common feature of the Japanese made version, it doesn't seem to be universal. The name comes form the etched Chinese characters for 6 and five on the bolt block.
I wanted to post this particular rifle because it links to the very interesting story of the Taiyuan Arsenal and the Warlord of Shanxi Province, Yan Xishan. Arsenal here and Yan Xishan here.
I can't rep FromHellBG atm, could someone do that for me please? thx.

Correct answer +Rep
The interesting thing here is that there are a few names for the Weapon of the Thracians, which is short curved sword blade from unilaterally concave side.
Thracian name - sica.
Greek name - μάχαιρα.
Bulgarian - name Махайра - Machaira.
Armed with mahayra-sica fighters entered the ranks of peltasts.
On the territory of Bulgaria have found many archaeological finds of this weapon, which showed that it appeared in Thrace during the VII - VI century BC .
