One of the earliest English settlements in North America, Pilgrims from England first settled in New England in 1620, to form Plymouth Colony. Ten years later, the Puritans settled north of Plymouth Colony in Boston, thus forming Massachusetts Bay Colony.

Transnistria

Transnistria is a partially-recognized breakaway state located between the River Dniester and the eastern border of Moldova. There was a war (of course) between Moldova and Transnistrian separatists in the early 1990s following the dissolution of the Soviet Union that lead to its creation as an autonomous region. It is not a well-known state.

Seleucid empire

The largest and militarily the most powerful of all the Diadochi kingdoms. But not long after they came into existence they got steamrolled in the east by Mauryan Empire of India, who suddenly stopped after capturing eastern Persia, and turned enmity into an alliance with a special gift of 500 war elephants. This didn't immediately diminish Seleucid power, and they recovered by capturing large parts of Anatolia and Levant. But then they bogged down in power struggle with the other Diadochi and stopped expanding. Diadochi wars distracted the 'homeland' Greek powers enough for Rome to come and annex them after dealing humiliating defeats to them. With Roman Republic now expanding into Asia and supporting Ptolemaic Dynasty from behind the scenes, they got into a conflict which was disastrous for Seleucids, being attacked on all fronts from different enemies.

Finally, while Seleucids were busy dealing with the western provinces and Mauryan Empire having collapsed and unable to watch their eastern front, nomadic tribes moved into Parthian Satrapy and occupied it. And before Seleucids could retaliate the Parthians captured all of Persia, reducing Seleucid Empire to a rump state in what remained of their lands in Syria. They remained there for some time, bankrupt and helpless, until Romans came and finally steamrolled them for good.

The largest country in Africa, once one of the Barbary States, conquered by France and fought a bloody struggle for independence. One of the countries more affected by the Arab Spring.

Vichy France

The 'Fascist' France, the puppet government of the Third Reich after it overran French Republic at a shocking and alarming speed. They had control of southern France, ceding all of north and west to Third Reich and parts in southeast to Italy, although their overlords had free reign over them. They had little control beyond what remained of France, and almost all colonial territories remained loyal to the old Republic. They were toppled after Allied liberation of France, and their leader, the once-extremely famous Philippe Petain, one of the heroes of the Great War, was captured as a criminal.

Second most populous state in the world. The modern state is a decendant of the British Raj. Ruled by many empires throughout the years including the Mauryan, Mughal, Maratha and British. Also home to two of the world's biggest religions (Hinduism and Buddhism)

Uzbekistan

A state in Central Asia. Formerly a part of Soviet Union, it was a nightmare for free market until it slowly began to open up. Now the country survives on exports of cotton and uranium. Populated with Turkic people, for some reason it was a major focus of the giant mammoth named Mongol Empire and it's successor states, Timurid empire in particular.
