Having trouble modifying any data files

Any time I try to modify any of the data files, I get an unspecified error when I try to load my save game afterwards. For example, I tried removing recruitment of Knights Hospitaller because it doesn't really fit in, and when I tried loading the game again, I got an unspecified error. This happens when I try to change anything in any of the data files.

Have you checked the log?

Also, what files are you removing? If you remove their physical model and/or textures the game will crash. You need to remove their entries in the EDU and modeldb for it to work. Otherwise when the game loads it will try looking for files that aren't there, and then crash

I checked the log but of course it just looks like a bunch of nonsense to me. I don't know what any of those thousands of lines of text means. Also, I'm not removing the units. I'm simply deleting the recruitment lines in EDB so that they don't show up in game. Very simple change that's hard to screw up.

Also, I should clarify that it happens when I load a saved game. Not when I start up WTW. Not sure if that helps.

Well I'm just curious why these changes are not save game compatible in WTW when they work in every other mod I've played. I just tested it and even something as simple as changing a unit's armor rating has the same effect. I can start a new game just fine, but loading a saved game causes a crash.
