While I don't mind the foreign advisors voice overs, that battlefield announcer can get on my nerves.
But all in all, I prefer these voices to
"The Day is OURRRRRRSSSSS!" and "Yes, Strappy Horse"
The RTW voices bothered me far more than these.

and to the OP: If you haven't heard the crazy general speeches from RTW, the next time you play it play a Roman faction and watch for a general with a trait like "Hooting" - that's one of the early signs your general is a bit crazy. Make him your main general and as he gets more demented his pre-battle speeches get funnier. Also, make sure you let Jerusalem rebel and then read the description for the rebels.

    Obviously not the right ones!
I know some people around here who have that kind of accent still. Remember that the US is a country with many different people and accents. Also I should say I think to me it sounds like a typical accent you would hear in civil war movies and reenactments and well just look at the years that fots is set in.

I think the humor in this game is appropriate for a total war game. They have always had some slightly silly things in them.

I think they are fine, a little over the tone, I must accept the north American accent fell kind of forced but is still acceptable. In either case I think all those voices are modable, so maybe some one would make something a little more serious or fitting to some people tastes?

Besides I think there are bigger issues on the game that the voices, really.

CA has very good writers, its almost a requirement due to how much text is in the game.

The American accent doesn't sound right? Can any American 150+ years old confirm?

Well in that case many 150+ years old players are fine with it actually.

Hahahah! By that I mean that it really sounds weird. If people talked like that back then well I don't know. The visual and the sound expectations of a player vary even for the same game.

One know how a samurai or a USA military guy from that century must look, (at least from movies in the worst case). In the case of voices one it's more difficult to know what to expect sometimes besides a vaguely accent, that's make it weird.

For instance the voice of the USA adviser did sounds like a modern (read today's, year 2012) northerner trying to sound like a civil war southerner. If they talked like that in the past, I don't know, but for todays ears it sounds weird, funny, annoying, you pick one. Not that is terrible bad either, it's just a matter of tastes. Maybe some one have an uncle that sounds just like the advisor and for she/him is not weird, but the general consensus (at least here) seem to dictate that the voice is indeed funny at the best, irritating at the worst, but not taken serious in any case.

They've confirmed that the American voice was voiced by an actor from America. I dont know where they found him... perhaps there's still a colony of Civil War survivors holed up somewhere, maintaining their almost fake accent...

Oh come on guys, there`s bound to be people who know how people sounded 150 years ago. I doubt the accent`s really changed that much at all in that time in some areas. Heck, go to places like Cornwall and Devon and Yorkshire in England you can still find examples of accents similar to 150 years ago today. The words might have changed but the basic accents there. It isn`t that long ago, y`know.

Probably people still talking like that in remote parts of the US I wouldn`t doubt.
A plea to CA: Please give us NON-STEAM OPTIONS such as with GOG.COM`s Alan Wake and Witcher 2, etc. Even allow a system such that Mount and Blade Uses. Many of us will pay extra for a Steam-free version of RTW2.
The use of STEAM-ONLY by CA is ethically wrong because:
    1. It does not need to be forced. It could be optional as other games have proven.
    2. It discriminates between internet users and non-users or those who simply do not want it.
    3. The `advantages` are only advantages in a very small and superficial manner. They do not counter the disadvantages.
    4. It suits the company way more than the user. We are simply told it`s better for us
Finally,I shall not give CA|SEGA my money for RTW2 while it forces Steam on me. They have given us no good reason why it must be so. Basically they don`t care.

A Steam Option would benefit ALL. Don`t fight us, JOIN us.
    Games don`t need forced Steam

Maybe up in the mountains, or in the deep swamps of Louisiana.

Hell, they still speak French way down South.
