    Default Q&A

If you have any questions to ask the troy total war team post them here. We will do our best to answer them.

    yes i have some questions:

    - will the dorians have those settlments in the north or they'll be also a horde to go down into greece?

    - will be there some kind of military reforms as the passage from bronze weapons to iron ones?

Firstly, yes, the dorians will start with the provinces in the north but will start moving south by themselves. If you play as a greek faction this will be bad news as the dorians will have some of the best shock troops in the game, almost a match for myrmidons due to their weapons. We had considered a horde, but decided against it as it wasn't needed for the desired effect and would also have been litterally unstopable if you were to play as a greek faction. We want to have the outcome open ended although in the favour of the dorians somewhat.

Secondly, no there won't be reforms as the greeks never made it to iron weapons at this time as iron was not widely used in an effective way. Early iron was soft in comparison to later iron and so only people skilled in forging it, like the dorians, would have gained any advantage from it.
(zenith will correct me or add more if needed i'm sure)

I'll try to answer all of that...

For appius -> Only the dorians and to a much lesser extent the hittites had iron at this time. As a result they are the only factions who will have units with these weapons. Most if not all of the dorians have iron weapons which can be upgraded as usual, only one or two of the hittite soldiers will have iron weapons, and these will have extra armour peircing qualities in comparison to the other hittite units. No other factions will have any iron weapons at any stage of the game.

For Dominus -> Each faction has somewhere between 10-20 units (with the exceptions of lydia and the sea people which are mini factions). Each faction's units will look completely different from every other factions units but similar to units within the same faction as can be seen in the screenshots. There will be diplomats and assasins (with a very low chance of killing a great hero). The same rules that applied to RTW and BI with regards to bribes will apply in our mod.

On the point of iron weapons, only the Dorians will have them. The mod doesn't really go on long enough to give iron to the Greeks.

well when i look at your map it seems as though there arent to many provinces. which leads me to either believe getting a province is tough, or its a shortish mod, either way it looks great, just wondering how many cities are there?

I've seen no cavalry units actually there will be some except chariots ? or fast infantry that can do this role mabye...

About the game play is Troy aimaing something challenging ? I guess it depends on the faction you chose, but do you plan to have special formations or anything else to improve the AI behaviour and how it'll use your units ?

Getting control of a province will be very tough, yes. Sieges in those days were not very well developed, so you'll only have battering rams and ladders. More will be decided on the open battlefield than in sieges. Furthermore, we do have more provinces than RTW Vanilla did.

There will limited cavalry plus chariots and some faster infantry.

The main formation will be the effective use of shield wall.

There is a chance that bribery and assassinating may be taken out of the game due to annoyances and they both defer attention from the point of the mod, WAR!!!
