Honestly, on my first playthrough whoever pays more. Gold is more important than stability!

Honestly, I'm still going through the dozens of minor quests in the Whiterun region that I haven't even thought about taking sides in the war. As Thane to my Jarl, my loyalty lies with him. I'd be happy to kill Stormcloak or Imperial at the moment.

I sided with Imperials because the Stormcloaks were racist to me.

My character is a Nord so I'm definitely down with the Stormcloaks. Another incentive was the way I was treated by the Imperials in the beginning. That left a bad taste in my mouth.

Knowing some lore on how the Aldemeri(?) Dominion is we need a Nordic Skyrim even though I'm a Dark Elf. Nords know their **** when it comes to killing elves.

The Dominion has to be dealt with so you need a strong faction. But the Empire is so weak while the Stormcloaks pretty racist. I wish (and maybe there is, not far into it) there was an independent choice, where you could proclaim yourself or Balgruuf (I like the guy, seems to care for his people) High King
