Modifying Unit stats?

I been trying to look around for a Tutorial but i have been a bit confuse could someone direct me to a relevant tread or possibly giving me a brief explanation?

This thread shows you how to add a completely new unit to the game. If you're only interested in modifying, then half of it will be irrelevant, but it still shows you more than you need to know.
