Default The 2nd Comming of The Numidian Empire

The Numidian Empire was once the undisputed super power on North Africa, rulling from the tip of the western cost to the borders of Egypt. Their calvary moved with the grace of dancers and struck like lightning, and on the open plains of their domain they were invincible. At the hight of their power they deffeated the barbaric hords of the Gorgans, crushed the massive armies of the Parsians and kicked the ass of the so called Alexander the Great.

This invincibility was shattered in 300BC when an army of 15,000 Greeks, sent by the Megatorin League attacked and occupied the eastern port city of Crene. To deal with this the Numidian sent their own army of 30,000 light horse-riders to exterminate the Hellinic scum, just like they did to Alexander's force over 20 years before. Only this Greek army was lead by a man named Alekos who was one of Alexander's officers serving in the exposition force that the Numidians deffeated all those years ago and he saw many flaws in the Numidian army and their deppendince on their light calvary. Now armed with that knowldge, Alekos has decided to return to face the Numidians and show the world that the horse masters of Africa die just as like all other men.

To accomplish this goal Aleko's plan was to take Crene and then force the Numidians to fight them within it's narrow streets were their calvary would be unable to monover. Then convince the locals of Cyrenaica to ally themselves with the Megatorin League The first part was easy since the Numidians had no navy to speak of and they have never bothered to build walls around any of their cities before. So in what most have seemed like an instance to the native Crenens, Aleko landed his army, stormed the city, deffeated the greatly overly matched deffense force and captured Crene.

And as he predicted riders had escaped from the city at the first sign of attack and to bring news to the local Numidian commanders. In a matter of days nearly every Numidian solder in the province of Cyrenaica would ascend on him and his army and Aleko would be ready.

The local Numidian govener of Cyrenaica was a woman named Raisa, and when she learned of this invasion of Greeks she took it all in stride. For her this was a golden oppertunity, a chance to deffeat an enemy army, prove herself to her commanders, and to get the hell out of this boring province. With any luck Raisa would get sent to the east were the war with Ptolemaic Egypt offered glory and wealth.

So with stars in her eyes, Raisa summoned every single Numidian solder in Cyrenaica to take back Crene. Entire camps were left barren and tribes of locals unwatched, but Raisa had 30,000 Numidian horse riders plus another 10,000 from local tribes to wipe Aleko and his Greek army off the face of the map.

However the numbers are very misleading, because while the Greeks were out numbered nearly three to one 2000 of their men were Spartan hoplites, 4000 were Athena mariens, and the other 9000 were heavily equiped hoplites from the varios Greek cities. Raisa's army of 30,000 Numidians was all light calvary, which was better for out flanking than head long charges. The only infantry was the 10,000 local warriors of duvies loyalty and whose equipment usally included things like wooden clubs, knives, slings, javerlins, and a small wooden sheild.

But in the mind of Raisa and most other Numidian leaders at the time they beleived that their skill with the horse gave them the edge over all other people. So she lead her army to Crene and to their doom.

By the time Raisa reached the city Aleko's men were more than ready for them and when she ordered her army to charge the battle instantly became a slaughter. Unable to turn or manuver the Numidian calvary was soon filled with bleeding holes from the Greek spear men, and when the Numidian allies saw this and that their own weapons were just bouncing off the armored hoplites they began to surrunder in droves. By the end of the battle, the Numidian army of 40,000 had been reduced by death, casuality, and desertian to a mere 500, while the Greek army for perhapes the first and only time in military history had actually grown despite lossing 2000 men, thanks to the 10,000 natives who switched sides in the middle of battle.

The affects of the battle of Crene spread like wild fire through out the Numidian Empire. The various tribes of Cyrenaica rose in revolt and swore loyalty to Aleko and the Megatorin League. In the east Egypt started financing various rebel uprisings among the tribes in the Numidian border provinces. In the south the Gorgans began stiring up trouble. But the worst for Numidians was that the Punic City State of Carthage, who has been under semi control of the Numidians since its founding has also made a bid for independince. This was espcially nerve racking for the Numidians due to the city's close position to the Numidian homeland, their massive navy, mastery of sea trade, their offshore provinces on Corcica, Syricreas, and Spain, and the gigantic treasury that allowed them to buy the loyalty of nearby tribes like the Lybrians.

It wasn't long until the Numidians were forced back to the traditional borders of their homeland, which stretches west of Carthage's new territory to only as far as the river Mulucha, and from the Atlas mountains in the south to the Mediterranean Sea in the north. They have even been forced to accept a peace treaty with Carthage, making the Punic up start the now domininte power in their relationship. But despite these massive and sudden set backs, the Numidians are far from deffeated. Their calvary may no longer be able to provide them with unquostionable dominince on the battle feild alone, they were still able to force a massive Carthage army from invading what was left of their territory and the breathing space the peace treaty gives them is a chance to revoulat their military, goverment, and society. And when they are ready the Numidians will march out again and make their army empire greater than ever.

(This is bassed off my Numidian campaign in ATW, please comment.)

Nice backgroundstory but some times difficult to read because of the various spellingerrors (like deffeated => defeated and so on)
