yes you're right... it was a very "unique" culture... differentiated from others...

yes perhaps "Barbarian" is better but this is MTW though so other cultures here...

Edit: but I'm sure the team will transform the cultures to those in RTW... anyway can't remember reading somewhere that Celts and Germans had Stone Walls... that's why I disagree with "Barbarian" culture mostly or anyway a culture altogether with Celts, Germans and others...

Thing is, we can only have so many culture groups. Of course Dacians, Celts, Iberians (especially the non-IE ones), and Germans are different from each other, heck the argument could be made for Celts and even inner-Celtic differences, but there's limitations of the engine to be considered.

Excellent posts Visarion, very thoroughly researched +rep of course.

I've been reading the book 'Burebist & Sarmizegetusa' by Dan Oltean and it's been quite englightning. Currently I am at the chapter discussing Burebista's monetary reforms. Before his unification of all the tribes the various Dacian tribes used to mint their own coins and forge roman coins which they then used to trade. As part of his reforms Burebista shut down all the local mints and banned the local rulers from minting any more coins. He then established a main mint at Sarmizegetusa where he started minting Roman coins. Archaeological discoveries at Sarmizegetusa unearthed the remains of the mint and three partially destroyed matrixes used to forge roman dinars. Through this reform he ensured that he had a monopoly on the roman coins, however some archaeological digs show that some local rulers may have resisted and buried their coins instead.

About the culture, of course it would be ideal if the Celts, Germans and Dacians each had their own culture but the M2TW engine I believe only allows for 7 cultures. Which i think is the same as in Rome. So unfortunately, the only way is to use the blanket 'Barbarian' culture for them.

    Hey Vis,
Concerning the Celts and stone walls:
They had two different types: Murus Gallicus and Pfostenschlitzmauer(ugh, that one is hard to translate to english, maybe post-slit wall?)
But on The Germanics you are right.

    Best Regards

By a "strict interpretation" of the above doctrine, either all reforms need to be gotten rid of (including the Polybian and Marian, just because historically Rome shifted to a proffesional army doesn't mean the republic would necessarily adopt a legionary structure, you could have a massive empire continuing to use hastati, principes, and triarii, or evolving in a completly different direction) or all factions need to be given access to certain potential, even completely ahistorical reforms to represent what probably would have happened if a faction had gained political dominance over a certain area. To stay somewhat on topic, the Getai would certainly undergo some reforms of their military and political structure to deal with the strain of ruling the greek city states and Asia minor, if they were that militarily lucky, but the same goes for the Suromatae, Boii, etc.

Of course, that would be an absurd amount of work for the team and I oppose anything that prolongs the wait for a release, so feel free to disregard the above point.
A good post and I entirely agree. You conquer the Romans who are better equipped soldiers why not use their equipment. The way I see it we have the Roman army of old; Hastati, Princepes and Triarii then we have the Roman army of new; Roman Legionaires and Praetorians. So we've made the army setup simpler but increase its efficiency too. Let's do this with atleast the major powers and the minors can use some of the majors what-ifs.

I always find it a little odd that a simple post at the start of the thread has a sudden metamorphosis and so turns out at the end to be political.. G.S keep politics out of it... it just a game. sigh.... nice mod btw.
