In terms of trade, there isn't any benefit per se in terms of money, but the trade route for the United States comes from the east of the map whereas the French and English come from the west past Satsuma. So if you're one of the Shogunate forces trading with the French then the Satsuma or others can easily raid your foreign trade since it will span the entirety of Japan from the west. And vice versa for Imperials trading with the United States.

Making good use of your FV also impacts the stats a lot too, as do Generals over time. So, to a degree advantages / disadvantages for the US, French or British troops can be negated eventually. I do like the naval bonus that Britain brings with it though...
Man is the only animal that deals in that atrocity of atrocities, War. He is the only one that gathers his brethren about him and goes forth in cold blood and calm pulse to exterminate his kind. He is the only animal that for sordid wages will march out...and help to slaughter strangers of his own species who have done him no harm and with whom he has no quarrel. ..And in the intervals between campaigns he washes the blood off his hands and works for "the universal brotherhood of man"-- with his mouth.

The USMC also have some pretty hilarious background dialogue.

"Look! The Bastards are fighting back!!"
"They gotta earn their pay, same as you son."

    And my personal favorite:

"Woman handed me a baby a few a towns back..."
    "Yeah?"
    "Apparently I'm the father."

Haven't really heard anything from the Brits or the Frenchies, I'm sure they've got some good ones but I haven't really used either of them enough to notice anything.
