Default The resaon why Rome 2 wont be CA's next game

    Hello everyone,
After some serious thought, I realized that the periods in which the Total War Games where made had a pattern to them.

    Rome (new period)

    Medieval 2 (sequel)

    Empire (new period)

    Shogun 2 (sequel)

New Total War Game TBA (new period?)

    Rome 2 (sequel)

With expansions in between all of them, it seems as if CA is following a pattern of a new game than a sequal to an older one. I believe Rome 2 will be announced more in 2014. The next tw game will more likely be more modern considering the fact that it wouldnt make sense just to dump all FOTS's gameplay mechanics out (for lack of a better term). I'm thinking a victoria tw because it covers a massive ammount of time, like empire. (CA's last new period)

You should add Napoleon as a sequel but sure you're absolutely right because I and many other people think that CA hasn't done FoTS for nothing. It must have been a testing for the next game which will be set in a modern time period.

Well, Napoleon was at first intended to be an expansion, but after the disaster that was empire, they made it a standalone, like Fall of the Samurai

I don't own ETW, but from all I've heard it sounds like maybe CA bit off more than thay could chew with such an expansive, far-reaching title; I wouldn't be at all surprised if future TWs are kept to smaller theatres of conflict which can represented well even with tight development schedules/budgets (especially given the current economic climate, and in particular SEGA's recent losses.)

I'm expecting that the next TW will likely be ACW:TW. The Crimean (or other period conflicts) might be possibilities too though, or if we're lucky the next "full" TW might be something like the Kingdoms ex-pack for M2TW, in the sense that it'll feature several "mini-campaigns" (e.g. ACW, Crimean, Anglo-Zulu & Russo-Japanese) rather than one large fully integrated 19th C. campaign.

Watch out for incoming TW Rome fan rage

Anyway, I agreed. I feel like FOTS is some kind of experiment for CA to introduce a new time period into TW series. There reason why FOTS is so cheap and consider as an expansion is that to prevent major backlash for failure. Now that FOTS is a success, they will definitely continues to plan to create the next new TW series in this time period.

CA normally works on two or more total war games at once. A good example is when they where working on napoleon, they started shogun So it just kind of supports the theory of how 2014 would be a good release date for rome 2.

I really hope the next game isn't Rome. Watching a phalanx win a siege all by themselves was hilariously boring, and I really don't want to re-live it.

Send us to the 19th Century or maybe do something with the Medieval China.

Rome 2 is the one most people want, that would probably sell the most. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the best selling TW game.

IF rome 2 is the next TW then ..

    (1) No explosions to rock your screen
    (2) No cannon fire
    (3) no FPS cannon fire (a GREAT feature that MUST be in the next TW)
    (4) No musket / rifle fire
    (5) no trains
    (6) no cannon firing ships
    (7) no bombardments
    (8) no torpedos
    (9) no machine guns
    (10) no ZAP-BANG to attract the FPS crowd
    (11) with no Zap-bang, the gameplay will need to be even more addictive to compensate.
    (12) no tanks
    (13) no barbed-wire
    (14) No medical units
    (15) no air-attacks (called in)
    (16) no battlefield bunkers / fortifications
    (17) .. and the list goes on ..
    (18) .. and on ..
    (19) ..

Instead you get guys with shields and swords running towards other guys with shields and swords while archers lob arrows back and forth.

Or you could just use the guys with big shields and really long sticks and own everybody.

You can do it manually if its that big of a deal.
    (2) No cannon fire
Eh, Onagers and Ballistas are good enough.
    (3) no FPS cannon fire (a GREAT feature that MUST be in the next TW)
    Its a gimmick
    (4) No musket / rifle fire
Thankfully, TW works best in Melee.
    (5) no trains
Trains have a limited impact on the campaign.
    (6) no cannon firing ships
Roman SeaWafare was actually quite advanced, there was Ballistas mounted on Ships, along with Marines and Specialised boarding ships.
    (7) no bombardments
That will turn off all the Strategy gamers...
    (8) no torpedos
    So?
    (9) no machine guns
No , Its set in the ancient world.
    (10) no ZAP-BANG to attract the FPS crowd
We don't want the fps crowd.
    (11) with no Zap-bang, the gameplay will need to be even more addictive to compensate.
    Wat.
    (12) no tanks
I see no tanks in Shogun
    (13) no barbed-wire
    Where is it now?
    (14) No medical units
    Where is it now?
    (15) no air-attacks (called in)
    Where is it now?
    (16) no battlefield bunkers / fortifications
    Where is it now?

Also one thing to note is how the game engines get updated. Basically, CA developed new game engines for every two major game titles (I consider NTW and FotS expansions). According to the pattern, it might be Rome 2 with a new engine...

But like someone mentioned on another thread, either Rome 2 or Victoria total war may not happen, CA may move to more "economically efficient" ACW for the next one utilising more mature version of Warscape engine.
