I don't know what the RTR hypaspists are like, but the ones in XGM are good quality sword/javelin heavy infantry. They are not as good as Roman Legionaries, but they will do quite well against most other infantry.

In RTR they kick . There are two versions ,sword armed ones in hoplite armor with a hoplon and lino-thorax armored ones with spears , shields and javelins . Both own.

They own a little too much and Macedonia ends up blizting half the map.

I like the XGM Hypaspists. They are well balanced and simply look great.
But I think the name "Hypaspistai" (shieldbearers - aspis: hoplite shield) would be more suitable here, as for we already have "Thorakitai", "Thureophoroi", "Krypteia" and "Hetairoi".

Hypaspists in XEG are quite good, train them in cities with Ares temple, then can match even Roman Legionaries. With support with Athenian marine archers... CARNAGE !
