1938 with Orson Welles radio drama when the Martians invaded.
Or is this just part of the plot ... ?

That was Orson Welles' production of H.G Wells 'War of the Worlds'.

Meh. I fail to see in which way the suggestion that a member of staff is deliberately tampering with the contents of passwords in the database is somehow funny because it is untrue? I'm sure everyone on this site uses a unique password just for TWC. So sure, in fact, that really, when some hacker finds an injection vulnerability and is able to commandeer the server on which the forum runs you don't really have to warn people about changing passwords on other sites... After all, who has the same password on other sites? Right.
In case I missed something, as far as I am aware it isn't actually April 1, yet.
All HEX members need to be recalled and new ones elected. This stunt was stupid, poorly thought out, and ignorant to say the least. I thought the higher ups had a tad bit more class/sense, but apparently they do not.
Pranks aren't always reserved for April 1st and I thought this was a damn good one and would have loved to see it come to its full potential, hats off to all involved, honestly, I can't stress how enjoyable it was![]()
Yeah, and now stigmatize as naive idiots all those who had doubts then and who now have doubts about coolness of the prank.
If there actually were people who wasted an hour or more to secure their stuff just in case, because they don't know GED personally and/or don't know full extent of his contribution to this site, then what would you tell them? "It's your fault that you are so naive to believe that the owner would harm the site"?
That would require you to assume that they actually read each and every of 100 of posts. Not everyone should have the time to read all those things just because a bunch of people, including the owner, decided to have a laugh. So, the reaction on "there's somegoing on in the curia, backup your stuff!" was "okay!". Simple as that, nothing oblivious to common sense in it.
That is a blatant fallacy, one of the most vocal "participants" in the prank, Major Darling, was utterly unaware of any prior planning that had occurred and merely recognised the inherent logical flaws of the supposed plot and engaged with them for the sake of amusement.
When it initially occurred I was totally uninformed despite having prior knowledge that a possible prank would occur in lead up the the 1st of April and immediately, before even opening the thread, knew it was clearly a joke.
You don't read every post of a thread, not including general "spam" threads, prior to respond so that you can form your own opinion on the matter at hand? How would know what you're going to say hasn't been said before without thoroughly reading the thread? That would require you to assume that they actually read each and every of 100 of posts.
Furthermore as I noted earlier, the give away was in the very first post. I'm not stigmatising anyone, nor am I inferring that the prank was "cool".

It's a bit much to sit there as someone who was aware of this prank, and state that anyone who fell for it was "oblivious to common sense", and then make out that those people were actually at fault for "spreading panic" otherwise known as taking sensible steps to ensure the safety of the mods on this site, given what they believed to be the case.
I was "in" on this prank too, though personally I don't support it, and suggested it should be ended as soon as possible, and having that behind the scenes knowledge I was surprised so many people fell for it too. But again, it's easy to say that in our position, and given the whole intent of this was to fool people, it's rather hard on everyone to make out they were extremely gullible for being fooled, especially as everyone is familiar with the site to different extents, and some won't have experienced past April Fools here either.
"For after the their baptism the Croats made a covenant, confirmed with their own hands and by oaths sure and binding in the name of St. Peter the apostle, that never would they go upon foreign country and make war on it, but rather would live at peace with all who where wiling to do so; and they recived from the same pope of Rome a benediction on this effect, that if any other foreigners should come against the country of these same Croats and bring war upon it, then might God fight for the Croats and protect them, and Peter the disciple of Christ give them victories."

Well you know there's the saying that the bigger the lie the more people will believe it, if it hadn't been so outrageous I think most people would have called the bluff. Furthermore how many on this site do you think have any clue what that "obvious" error was in Bolkonsky's log?
But that's just like your opinion man.
So there won't be a prank on April Fools Day?
Given, and retracted. It's a bit much to sit there as someone who was aware of this prank, and state that anyone who fell for it was "oblivious to common sense"
Most of the people making those sorts of posts were considerate and cautious without being hyperbolic. That isn't who I'm addressing with the body of that post.then make out that those people were actually at fault for "spreading panic" otherwise known as taking sensible steps to ensure the safety of the mods on this site
Who knows, text could all be in pink or something.
Damn it, already started. They really need to stop these bloody pranks![]()
