In Gigantus we trust.
In Gigantus we trust.
No,no. We must sooth the ravished emotions of the panty-twisted and the hand wrung. TWC staff should immediately issue a formal apology to anyone who thinks they are insulted, along with a 1,000$ check for emotional distress. Then the site must be sold, and the offenders must commit intrawebz seppeku.
It's an issue of credibility after all. Musn't let those with delicate sensiblities think for one second that they aren't being catered to.
Yes, because everyone has such a fragile super-ego, to the point where we rise up in arms over a silly joke. A -transparent- silly joke at that.
Yawn. Therefore pretending to have rather brutally violated this trust is what one might term in exceedingly poor taste.

I didn't find it funny. The dramatised acting from the victims, hanious supporters and people "trying" to sort things out, pushed it over the edge imo. April 1st is coming up, but this happening clearly before April first was really confusing. Hobbes did admit in a separate post that it was a prank, but that didn't echo through out the forum and in particular here, where it would have been more significant. I for one didn't know what to believe since there was a story going around that accounts had been hacked. So I took the latter seriously. This kind of prank is distasteful for the audience. Why couldn't you pick something less dramatic?
So people are cheesed off by this mostly because it happened on March 28 instead of April 1? It would have been less or more funny given the difference of 3 days?
Some people need to be less delicate![]()

Back in MY day, this would have gone on through April 1st and would only have been revealed on April 8th.

Thought jokes were supposed to be funny? :S
Suffer. Right.
Like this?
Or was the suffering more like this:
Here's a few things to help your friend recover
I recommend the .mp3 download.Have you ever wondered why bad things happen to good people? Trained psychologist, Fr. Benedict Groeschel examines some of life's most difficult questions in the context of faith. He reveals penetrating insights and deeply personal reflections to find answers to the perpetually plaguing question, "Why"? and explains how in these painful moments, God manifests His loving Presence

Oh, really?
I say, some people need to be more sensitive towards others.
It's too easy to care only for yourself. That's why egocentrism runs rampant.
I would like to think that those who organised or helped the whole thing to evolve had first thought about what impact could this have on others.
But sadly, it seems they were concerned only about their own intentions and their own fun.
Yes, of course there were numerous evidence showing that this whole thing was a lie.
But, on the other hand, there were supposedly also very important and serious things at stake.
Not to mention that the suspicion about hacked accounts alone (moreso adminisator accounts) leads to reduced trust among people and possibly chaotic behaviours.
If you chose to joke around thoughtlessly with such important things (at the expense of others), you should be prepared to deal with the consequences! It's that simple...
Haven't you people ever heard that "if you play with fire, you might get burnt"?
Also, the "responsibility" for a prank-thing to go well lies on the hands of those who orchestrated it, not the opposite!
So you cannot only accept the kudos but dismiss the "protests", it's either all or nothing.
Of course a lot of people find what happened funny, but that doesn't surprise me at all.
I've seen people being amused and laughing with the most stupid and malevolent reasons.

It never occurred to anyone that, had those events really taken place, nobody would have known about it because it would have been handled immediately and professionally? Considering the flags and alarms (and common sense) that are in place this would have taken about 30 minutes to be brought under control. But, on the other hand, there were supposedly also very important and serious things at stake.

Talk about trust...
Of course you have a point, and if you search my posts you will see i have mentioned this somewhere. EDIT: well, not exactly, but something to that effect.
Spoiler for don't you mean something like that?:
Sadly, though, it didn't work out as you (didn't) think it would, did it?
I think that one thing that led to what you mentioned above not being "registered"(?) in a lot of people's minds, is precisely this trust that they had in some of the "higher-ups"... Because many of those were playing along and did a very good job at it.
And also (i repeat) i believe he importance of the possible negative stuff that could happen played a large role in all of this...
And i repeat once more:
And this once more:
Hacked accounts inspire VERY little trust

How much do you think a pleb knows about administrative procedure? Not to mention, site takeover happened in the past from what I've heard.
...And people only believed Bolk/etc about the situation because of trust
...personally, I actually found the joke pretty funny. Especially Major Darling, he was quite hilarious while mostly harmless.
What I do not find funny, though, is the reactions of some of the mods/people who were in on it.
Jom and Bolk have been pretty fair and decent, apologizing for any inconvenience the whole thing caused. But the defensiveness/elitism/"you are overreacting" talk would be extremely insulting for those who never clued in. I don't mean you Gigantus, but just about every post GED has made here pours salt over people who really thought this was happening and are currently not amused.
It might seem obvious to some of you that this was a joke, the CA thing tipped me off quite a bit, though I was still a little cautious, but some of us have very little experience with how things run up top.
...Narf is someone you guys respect. What do you think annoyed him more: the joke, or the gullible mantra accompanied by a slapping animation?
I thought everyone learned to apologize when jokes offended people in Kindergarten![]()
Still with this?
So some found it funny. Others not so much. Mmkay, point taken. Not like we can try a prank akin to this one ever again anyways.
Well we can't control the reaction you choose to have over something. And I understand the need to know why people found it so distasteful and take that to heart. But at the same time you can't say that just because you can't control your own emotions that we should do it for you.Jom and Bolk have been pretty fair and decent, apologizing for any inconvenience the whole thing caused. But the defensiveness/elitism/"you are overreacting" talk would be extremely insulting for those who never clued in. So some found it funny. Cool. Mission accomplished. Others didn't. Also cool. Duly noted. That's all we can do now in the aftermath. Move on.
