    Default Game won't start...

Please help me. After reading about this mod it sounds like everything I've been wanting in NTW. However, after installing your mod the game crashes as soon as it goes from the Steam launcher to the first loading screen. I have added the Steam beta in preferences and even tried starting with Steam offline but it still won't load. The mos files are their (NER etc..). I uninstalled Dart Mod before installing NER, could that be the reason??

See for leftover files and check your scripts launcher. It could be that packs that you already deleted are still in the data folder. Leftovers of DM you see, so check that and hope it works for you btw, try naval battles

    Cheers...

Thanks for the swift reply but I have decided to download vanilla again from Steam and start NER with a clean slate. I can't wait to try the naval battles in NER!! Just wish Steam downloaded faster .....

No. It still doesn't load the game. All I get is vanilla (line infantry range 70). To be honest I'm not that surprised. I have so far tried almost every major mod for NTW and they are all so full of bugs, crashes or just plain don't even work. It feels like a big tease to be honest. You see all the wonderful screen shots and get all excited but the only mod that is stable is Darth Mod and his campaign start is not historical: no heavy cavalry available and the campaign AI is very passive. NTWIII works but won't let you mod anything: it auto writes over your changed user scripts. LME won't even load. TROM2 loads but crashes if you try to save a game.... and on and on. Sorry but I'm feeling disillusioned. I've spent days trying to get what I want to work. Guess it's time to go back to Rome and MTW. NTW mods are very, very buggy and unreliable.

Sorry to dump on you like this. Actually I owe you thanks for being the only person to actually respond to my request for help. The other modders here just ignore you.

Don't give up. Step one, take a break and a deep breather. Go play some other game, or do something to loosen you up.

Then, come back and see what might be done to better your chances.

Why don't you run a fresh install of NTW. I had to do before installing other mods. That usually did the trick for me.

The installation instructions for NER are really plain, simple and straight forward. Just follow them (and I am not implying you did not). But just try again with a calmer mind. It appears you have tried to get a mod to run for a few days straight. That might be the problem. Take a break. Step aside for a few days and let the past unsuccessful attempts sweep away.

I am going to try to install NER myself again (I did it once before, and it worked, at least I think so).

So, I am going to post here whether it did and what I did.

Just hang in there and I am sure you will get a chance to pay NER.

Thanks. Good advice. I spent yesterday evening cleaning up my hard drive and improving the performance of my PC. Let me know if you discover why the game is reverting to vanilla after the CA intro movie. I always do a clean install onto vanilla after I change major mods. It takes a while as NTW is a big file but I feel it's safest that way. Thanks again.

Do you think the problem is because the NER files are in a "movie" format"? I notice other mods use pack files. Maybe you could release a version with pack files for people who experience my problem. Thanks.

I had this problem but resolved it. I had been playing NER for a while, migrated over to LME3 to see what the fuss was about (a great mod but the movement speeds are too fast for me and the arty was devastating). I decided to revert back to NER as I preferred it. I uninstalled the previous mod (LME3) using the uninstall, verified the data cache using steam, and nada, wouldnt load. Checked scripts file deleted refs to LME, as the uninstall hadnt touched this. Still nothing. So, removed NTW completely from the PC, reinstalled from CD, redownloaded patches and DLCs from Sgteam and 3 hrs later was excited to be playing again, so i thought, but NO bloody thing wouldnt start. Argh! I feel your pain. Last thing i could think of was to check the files and folders in NTW (bearing in mind this was a clean install so shouldve been fine) Sure enough i found a half dozen pack files *still* there from LME, even though I had uninstalled it, and even uninstalled the complete game too. Once i had deleted the pack files from LME the game worked fine. Hope this provides some insight into a potential prob you may also have? mark
