    Default 7YW British Marines

    Hi

Has anyone made a mod to upgrade the vanilla Marines which are on British ships yet?

The pic above is fairly accurate although on board ship the marines would have worn blue and white virtical striped gaiters. Note the belly box, short land pattern and cut down mitre cap.

No one has done that particular model, but if we do change the marines in DMUC again, they'll probably get tricorns as to not look out of date compared with the line infantry. (What is slightly more important though is getting the damn officers to show up in blue, and I'm currently digging for a decent mod that could be included to that effect).

Cool, ok. Marines were not issued with tricorns as they were considered inpractical on board ship (though from experience, mitres are just as inpractical!!). Still, even upgraded marines with tricorns will be better than the current vanilla ones, which are pretty awful IMHO.

Would be good to see Naval officers in blue

They might not have had tricorns, but its the closest thing to these hats (no I couldn't find a better picture in 30 seconds):

An alternative would be bicorns like in TAR.
Like I said though, officers are the priority.

The round hats didn't come into general use until about 1802/3 when the Marines became "Royal" and thus changed to blue facings instead of white. Tricorns would probably be better than bicorns IMO, especially if the coats styles are 1740s to 1790s.

Good luck with trying to get the officers changed.

However, the ships themeselves are from that era anyway, and those hats are indeed more recognisably "British" than any of the 'corns.

What actually happens all depends on what I find around the forums.
