    Default Seppuku

I just figured out how to force your generals to do it. You just disband them.

I've gone through playing Shogun, RotS, and many modded campaigns for so long, and I just figured this out. I've never disbanded a general until just now.

    Why would you though?

If you have no need for him, let him stay in a settlement somewhere, won't be doing any harm now will he?

I just did it. I had incited a rebellion in an enemy province, then, when they had destroyed the army of the rival clan, I forced them to become my vassal.

The only problem was that there were still rebels all over his province, so I convinced most of the rebel force, including the general, to come over to my side. When I used that to destroy the rest of the rebels, I decided I didn't need it anymore, and disbanded it. Then, I got a message saying that "A general has commited Seppuku because the daimyo commanded" or something similar.

This was in FotS though.... Maybe you can't do it in Shogun?

@Biggles: He was way off on an island, he costed money, and he had very low loyalty. I figured I'd just get rid of him. Save myself some possible trouble.

Back in my day you had to get your assassins to take care of pesky generals and family members.

Well, well I had no idea. I`ve been backstabbed by disloyal Generals a couple of times even having them switch sides just before a battle was to begin! Never knew I could order them to get rid of themselves.
A plea to CA: Please give us NON-STEAM OPTIONS such as with GOG.COM`s Alan Wake and Witcher 2, etc. Even allow a system such that Mount and Blade Uses. Many of us will pay extra for a Steam-free version of RTW2.
The use of STEAM-ONLY by CA is ethically wrong because:
    1. It does not need to be forced. It could be optional as other games have proven.
    2. It discriminates between internet users and non-users or those who simply do not want it.
    3. The `advantages` are only advantages in a very small and superficial manner. They do not counter the disadvantages.
    4. It suits the company way more than the user. We are simply told it`s better for us
Finally,I shall not give CA|SEGA my money for RTW2 while it forces Steam on me. They have given us no good reason why it must be so. Basically they don`t care.

A Steam Option would benefit ALL. Don`t fight us, JOIN us.
    Games don`t need forced Steam

I wish it were more dramatic. I don't want a peaceful picture of a well tended gravestone, I want a graphic of the seppuka contemplating his wakizashi while his kaishakunin stands over him with sword raised.

It's supposed to be a somber moment, after all.

    I know, right!??!

I've been playing for so long and I've never even THOUGHT to disband a general.

I'm so used to the "General death ships" of Rome and M2TW...

Gad zooks! Like the floating British penal ships from the revolution. That's just cruel .

In Rome and Med2 I just send them to the border to go senile and joust at windmills or something.

Haha. I used them as suicide heavy cavalry, or to weaponize the plague.

Likewise, OP. I wasn't aware of the option until now.

I had two generals with wavering loyalties (1 loyalty star), so I put one on a ship and scuttled it in the middle of the sea. I was going to send the other on a suicide mission against a rival clan, but I later figured out I could force him to commit seppuku by disbanding the unit.
