The new historical battles are going to be a great add-on to all the other new features. Only one more day of waiting for my obama clan.

Wait... Does this mean that these battles were not in the game from the beginning? I am a bit confused now.

Also, I think what craig was saying is that these battles are free and already included for those who have bought FoTS but they will be released at a later date as DLC for Shogun 2 players who have not bought FoTS.

It's NOT a "free DLC!" It's historical battles. All TW releases have had historical battles included, and Alexander even had historical battles presented as a tale that had to be unlocked.
It's something that we expect with TW release.

Well dlc or no dlc this series of battles is by far better than any they have done, feeling like viable content vs requisite add ons. I suppose perhaps that is what makes it dlc,the increased effort and budget vs previous inclusion.

I haven't started it yet. What's in it that would be more work than other previous historical campaign battles?
I thought it's just pretty much scripting and that's it. Are there extra movies, or unique units?

There are in fact new movies and a comprehensive fully narrated storyline following the battles of saigo takamori. The battles themselves are by far better presented and researched featuring many more units than previous battles ( ie rossbach with like 100 men) and the battlefields are well represented. There are also variable in the battles now
for example in the battle of toba fushimi the ai is actively trying to break through your defense to escape the field which they can do from several points, more than you have men to defend and you are quite outnumbered. It is all quite well done. Give it a go i am not saying it is like a 10 dollar dlc but it is a good play with some nice history behind it. Even if you dont like it i think you may be able to agree that it is better than the previous historical battles

Does it matter how they call it if we get it free?

THe only reason this battles are packed in DLC is to give access to them for original TWS2 owners who haven't bought FOTS yet.

Not my cup of tea. Ever since Shogun. Seems ok for a first mission or second, but as soon as you have to start repeating the same thing because you lost I then lose interest. I never liked the fact that I never really have any control over what`s happening as it`s all scripted. Fail, rinse repeat the exact same thing until success. The main campaign is far more immersive for me because if I fail a battle, I go away and fight a new battle on a different day..

    But all to their own.
A plea to CA: Please give us NON-STEAM OPTIONS such as with GOG.COM`s Alan Wake and Witcher 2, etc. Even allow a system such that Mount and Blade Uses. Many of us will pay extra for a Steam-free version of RTW2.
The use of STEAM-ONLY by CA is ethically wrong because:
    1. It does not need to be forced. It could be optional as other games have proven.
    2. It discriminates between internet users and non-users or those who simply do not want it.
    3. The `advantages` are only advantages in a very small and superficial manner. They do not counter the disadvantages.
    4. It suits the company way more than the user. We are simply told it`s better for us
Finally,I shall not give CA|SEGA my money for RTW2 while it forces Steam on me. They have given us no good reason why it must be so. Basically they don`t care.

A Steam Option would benefit ALL. Don`t fight us, JOIN us.
    Games don`t need forced Steam

I agree with Humble completely. Sometimes, I enjoy following a story, like in Heavy Rain, or even CoD Black Ops.

But I'll only ever do it once, because if I doit again, it's just the same thing.

That's why I almost always play sandbox games. They let you actually decide how the game world acts.

It's the reason TW is my favorite game series.

Are we really calling the "Historical Battles" -feature that has been in Total War since the beginning "free DLC", now? Has it really gone that far?
...When we said DX10 "looks great", we did in fact mean DX9, which we were happily playing at the time.

From what I understand, it's really more of a campign with a storyline, like most RTS games, rather than just some historical battles.

In the future, this DLC pack will be released for original Shogun 2 players to enjoy, without requiring Fall of the Samurai. Keep an eye out for more info on that soon.
Its a free DLC on the FOTS player's viewpoint, and it might as well be like an ordinary Historical Battle feature, BUT on S2 players who have no FOTS, it aint, and offering it STILL to S2 players who have no FOTS, is an awesome move.

Thats like offering the Alexander historical battles to guys who are still stuck with Rome and BI alone and arent that much interested in a grand campaign structured around Alexander.

Thats like offering the Mongol Invasion historical battles to guys who are still stuck with Shogun alone and arent that much interested in a grand campaign structured around the Mongol Invasion.

Thats like offering the Viking Invasion historical battles to guys who are still stuck with Medieval alone and arent that much interested in a grand campaign structured around the British Isles.

Thats like offering the BI historical battles to guys who are still stuck with Rome alone and arent that much interested in a grand campaign structured around the the BI campaign.

Thats like offering the Kingdoms historical battles to guys who are still stuck with Medieval II alone and arent that much interested in a grand campaign structured around the 4 Kingdoms expansion.

(Its clickable by the way....An S2 overhaul mod.)

Seriously. Click it. Its the only overhaul mod that's overhauling enough to bring out NEW clans

erwin, they have not said it will be free for s2 users, i now doubt it will be. They really just confused the frack out of me thinking id get some extra additional historical battles on top of the ones i expected from fots as every total war release sofar had its own, and called a feature that was free in the past for every past total war game now a free DLC ... those mfrackers....

Just DELIBERATE pispoor communication. Just bloody say the fots historical battles will be buyable for s2 owners soon, dont fead me bs about a free dlc for my fots copy... .

matthias, i dont have it listed either and i doubt it ever will be listed for FOTS owners, its just our own historical battles, go figure, we were had once again ... and they figured out they could start charging money now for the historical battles after fots was finished, some genius management dude in CA 's office prolly get a nice bonus for this idea, good job manager man, keep ripping the guts out of the series piece by piece. Next tw game no more historical battles chaps, unless you pay.
