FotS: Royal Marines wearing kepis

As I believe you've all seen in the recent gameplay vids has the Royal Marines been given kepis, something that if I recall correctly never have occurred in the history of the British Army.

I know it's small thing, but I still can't believe that CA reused the kepi from the French and Americans instead of creating a correct hat or just used a hat that is similar to the one they used and retextured it and made the visor transparent.

Those hats are wrong? Are you sure they were never used?

On the one hand, Wsq96 might be right. I am not s pecialist on British uniforms of exactly this time, but afaik the Kepi worn by British forces then was black, not red. Of course it could be that Royal Marines wore different (red) kepis than the regular Army, but I know no proof. The only headgear of RM I know for sure is several decades later (Boxer Rebellion), and is no kepi but a side cap.

On the other hand, in the 1860s kepis were the fashion to go. Many armies modeled their uniforms after the French including the kepi. This was because at this point the French Army was said to be the best worldwide. Also the "typical ACW uniform" is a copy of French models. Of course this fashion ended quite soon after 1871. But for the Boshin war timeline it was still much alive, and could explain British solderies wearing such French style uniforms...


But I am no expert on this topic and the above is just an educated guess

Nothing new there, a mod will correct it. Otherwise the Marines are all the same just different textures much like how the Line Inf in ETW was all the same models but with different textures.
Pretty sure a mod will correct the all moustache US Marines aswell, sounds like a lack of variety in the variant models.

EDIT: Worth noting that that's a Light Infantry regiment as well, they always tended to have different uniforms to the Marine regulars

This is not true. All 3 European infantry units in the game have different models. And don't compare it with ETW its just not fair.

The Royal Marine Light Infantry ARE the regulars.
"Royal Marines" did not exist until around 1920, when the Royal Marine Light Infantry and Royal Marine Artillery got amalgamated.

Anything else, be it hats or helmets or turtles with hairs on top, will just cause frickin trouble.

First off, I never said that. No one here has said that. Bringing up the issue of a historical inaccuracy is just that, and it's not that much asking CA to fix it. Some people really want their troops to look like what they'd look like during that time period, CA has already fixed something like this by fixing Spain's uniform color from yellow to white in Empire. So it's not like they're beyond doing something like this.

It's a legitimate subject, I'm pretty sure the British military never wore hats in the same fashion as their French and American counterparts. For people who are into history it might be a bit of an immersion breaker. I mean obviously it doesn't break the game, no one is saying that, but it can still be a bit of an annoyance. There's nothing wrong asking for a fix.

What I'm more curious about is if the Tosa troops will get their historically accurate pointy black gnome hats in the game. I havent seen any screenshots of them.

The fact that CA have got such small details incorrect is perhaps worse - it makes it seem as though they just couldn't be bothered or weren't paying enough attention. CA are a British company too are they not?

Hmm... no offense Jack but doesn't the in-game hat seem... a little off?

Maybe it's just the coloring that's throwing me off here, the example you (and my mind) gives is black, the screen says full red. *shrug*
