Re: AAR Anthology
OK - this is the cover design. Be advised I have no real image manipulation skills so this is basic but it is eye-catching (I hope!):

Re: AAR Anthology
Brilliant stuff! Many thanks SBH!
A couple things for my AAR:
p18
- 1st para - "offendingashigaru" needs a space
- 2nd para - "both sides.Bodies" needs a space after the full stop
- 2nd para - "inpursuit" needs a space
Don't think these missing spaces were in the doc file I sent - perhaps a quick spell check would be sufficient to iron these out.
I also noted you deleted all my asterisks space holders - is that per the style guideline or..? I'd prefer to keep them as the story makes more sense that way but if it's a problem then that's fine too.
General point - is it worth starting a new page for each AAR just to give it a bit more separation?

Re: AAR Anthology
Thanks, ronbinzx, for the feedback! Yes, I deleted those on style grounds. I can't start a new page either as spacing does not work on a kindle/digital ebook - that's why there are no page numbers for example. You have to think of it as a continuous waterfall of text which can adapt to the different downloadable formats. You can only really have at most 2 returns before it really starts to weird out!
I deleted the asterisks for those reasons also.
I am not surprised the doc is missing spaces as sometimes formatting can play havoc here. Spell check is a nightmare at the moment as there are so many so new words so I would rather everyone cast an eye over it and then once a green light is given I can finish it off. I have been staring at this text for two days now and need to rest a bit, to be honest!

Re: AAR Anthology
To add to other corrections- (although those are more stylistic/for the sake of understanding so more suggestions open to interpretation)
On p38 I think inserting a 'Dear Iakovos' or something would perhaps make it clearer that a letter is happening? Or-
'Michael Phillipus gazed out over Arta and the victorious army and signed his name at the bottom of the parchment, pursing his lips and sniffing the air.'
And as the final lines seem to be italicised, maybe italicise that letter and also the one from Alexios on p39/40
A wonderful collection SBH and also a great starting essay! Many thanks and may AARdom prosper from it

Re: AAR Anthology
Good ideas, Schrodinger - will add them in.
Also, to pick up on Shankbot12's comment about the ending of the anthology: I wonder what everyone's thoughts are about an endpiece? He is right - it does end abruptly and seems to call for some sort of bookending, as it were.

Re: AAR Anthology
I prefer the first cover design.
About the ending just a little section about what to expect in the next volume, a thanks to the writers etc. Nothing big - just something to round it off nicely.

Re: AAR Anthology
Yes, that sounds good. That's probably all it needs.
I like the first but something about the second keeps drawing my eye!

I prefer the slightly cleaner look of the first one personally.

Re: AAR Anthology
I do prefer the increased border (the bold black line, and increased white before the red cover) on the second one - maybe implement that onto the first one?

Re: AAR Anthology
Yeah, me too! Thanks.
OK I want to set a cat among the pidgeons here. As this is a first for epublishing in the AAR format for many of us - how would you all feel about using your own names as opposed to our forum signatures? By using our real names, it would allow you to 'own' the material publically and claim authorship. By that I mean, you will be able to show that you are published authors and develop any other writing projects off the back of that claim.
I am already doing that, of course, but would you feel OK with that or prefer to use these signatures?

Re: AAR Anthology
I'm fine with that personally. The only thing is I think we should make a collective decision to all use RL names or screen names. If we did half an half it would look kinda weird.
