drop in battles difficulty setting bonus applies or not?

When i play an opponents in legenday difficulty, will the human opponent have the same unit stats bonusses as my AI opponent would have ?

Sofar my yari samurai where getting massacred by ashigaru and i was hoping drop in battles would fix this

I feel very confident saying that it is not written anywhere, I wondered about this since Napoleon.
It does make sense for your opponent to get the bonus of course, otherwise drop-ins wouldn't "fix" the difficulty you chose, but "cheat" it.
I think I only played one or two dropin battles on Legendary; and it didn't feel like they got the boni, which I remember to be pretty excessive and making me avoid land battles almost altogether (which was partly why I thought Legendary was little fun so I didn't play it again).

I'd be interested in doing a test to check whether the boni apply, by starting two campaigns on different levels, pitching the same unit against each other and comparing the outcome.
