I was about to ask the same thing.
An even simpler method would be: just go into the duplicate folder -> ctrl + a -> ctrl + c -> go to the correct folder -> ctrl+p.

You're overcomplicating the problem John14626. Also, your extraction software sounds like a nuisance. Google 7-zip: It's open-source so you'll be saving pandas and starving babies too.

Ok, before I start, a caveat - I'm not very comfortable with computers & directory structure. Therefore, my understanding (below) could be quite wrong. With that said...

Because, as best I understand it, the files in the RTRVII(1) directory & sub-directories were not a complete set. The files in the patch, and therefore the files in the RTRVII(1) directory & sub-directories, were either replacements for existing files or new files. For example, one sub-directory from the patch had four files, while it's corresponding RTRVII (installed) sub-directory had (IIRC) nine files. The four files from the patch are intended to replace four files in the RTRVII (installed) sub-directory. If I followed the procedure you describe, wouldn't the entire sub-directory be replaced and the new sub-directory would contain the four files from the patch but be missing the other five files?

See my reply above. If I copy & paste the entire sub-directory, wouldn't I lose the files that aren't included in the patch (because, I assume, they're not meant to be replaced)?

By the way, I didn't exactly copy files one at a time. I copied entire sets of files from each patch sub-directory to the corresponding installed sub-directory. I'm not a TOTAL noob.

The patch is a self-extracting archive file published by the RTR group. It appears to utilize the StuffIt compression utility. I need additional extraction software to install?

Caligula Caesar & noverum - thanks for the replies!

Still hoping to get some help from the RTR team with the CTD...

A little more about the crash-to-desktop. I start RTR and I see the opening artwork - one soldier (hoplite?) stabbing another with a spear. Then it crashes to desktop.

This started to happen after I installed the patch. The straight installation of RTR VII launched fine.

When it crashes, it doesn't create any funny colors or graphics, and it doesn't seem to create any other functionality problems with other programs. It looks like the program just closes instead of launches.

I hope this helps. Please advise. Thanks!

It's kind of difficult to help you, I'm afraid. I may be advising what others have advised before.

I read you had a possibly corrupt patch file. At least, the extraction caused an error. Well, considering you can't know for sure what happened during this process, you should do a complete re-install (RTW, BI and patch 1.6) Once you've done this, I would make a back-up copy of the entire RTW folder. Next install VII, and make a copy of the RTRVII folder as well.

Download the patch once more, in case it is corrupt. If you haven't allready, download the free programme "WinRAR". Use it to extract the patch according to the instructions. IIR the default settings of WinRAR will ensure files get extracted with the right path.

The directories wouldn't be completely replaced. Only the files that conflict, which is as it's meant to be. Btw, I am part of the RTR Team, so you are getting help from us to fix the CTD I think you probably missed something on the copying over, so it's best to just copy it as I said, and if that doesn't work, reinstall as Muizer says.

    Gents,

Thanks for the help. I uninstalled/defragged/re-installed and it now works. I've installed both the 2a patch and the subsequent hot fix. I notice that the RTR Launcher still shows version 1.2a. Is this the correct display after installing the hot fix?

Now, to figure out how to play. Like Navek_Harst, I've never played a mod before. (I'm guessing that BI doesn't count as a mod.)

    Thanks again!

@John: you should have the most recent version, the hotfix doesn't update the launcher, which is why the version numbers stop at 2a. Just open the launcher and push the 'RTR VII' button, that should launch the mod.

@Navek: you should first download the RTR VII 1.0 download. After having installed that file, download the patch and it's hotfix which you can find in the opening post of this thread. Install them, use the launcher and you should be able to play the mod!

Glad you got it to work John. As a first mod, VII is going to be quite a leap though. I mean, it was released like 6 years after BI, so by that time we felt that to be interesting we had to come up with something really different from the original. So, don't be surprised if there's a bit of a learning curve involved, especially in the strategic game. And read the feature highlights on this forum!

Nope. You'll have to download the 1.0 download and after that Patch 2a and it's hotfix, which can be found in this thread. We are working towards the release of Patch 3, which will bring the number of downloads back to two

Run the FoE installer like normal, changing the install path to xxxx/steam/steamapps/common/rome total war gold
Ignore the launcher and short-cut prompts, they won't work
Open Steam, right-click on Rome: Total War Gold in the My Games menu
    Select Properties
Under the General tab select Set launch options ...
Type in -mod:FOE -show_err -nm without quotations and click OK
Launch Rome: Total War Gold by double-clicking it in the My Games menu
Select Barbarian Invasion from the two-choice list and Launch.

You have installed the main RTRVII installation (version 1.0), right?

Then you need to install Patch 2 and its Hotfix.

The instructions for Steam do still apply at the moment, only instead of -mod:FOE -show_err -nm you should type -mod:RTRVII -show_err -nm

It didnt worked.I have send patch 2 and is hotfix to my steamaps, etc, rtr.
For the years that this mod have and still the things "we" have to do ,and in my case failing, its a bit absurd.

I give up unfortunately .I already deleted everything i had from RTW Gold to RTR .

Well, I'm sorry to hear that. May I friendly remind you about the fact that this is a non-profit organisation and that we're all doing this for fun? Hence, it might require some downloads and sometimes a little problem to get it to work. It would be a bit unfair to treat a mod team like a professional gaming company, which is why I don't agree with the use of words like 'absurd' in this case.
