Hello from an old friend and Stainless Steel tester/helper... and player...
It has been a few years since I have not played MTWII/Stainless Steel, and today I just wondered if the best modding team ever for strategy game is still working 24/7 to always improve MTW II. I find TWC site, log in and ... WOW!!!! --- 7.0 in progress!!!
For who ever reads this reply, I am telling you that there is no better of group of talented people in the world in modding a game like this guys from Stainless Steel! Together also with the other team that created the Lord of the Rings mod for this game, they deserve the best reward of game modding that can ever exist.
There are numerous hours of work, dedication, sacrifice placed for this mod. My sincere compliments, and I can only say keep up the excellent work! You are the BEST! Gracul and all the other modders, congrats! And yes, you guys deserve a break for a few months---
Sincerely,
nonnob3

I Love Stainless Steel Mod and I hope SS 7.0 will come out.
I think SS 7.0 should add more provinces this time expand more north for Sweden and Finland. SS 7.0 should add New Faction Sweden but Sweden might be Christian or Pagan in Early Campaign and for some Pagan nation like Lithuania can have a option to become Christian nation.
I hope SS 7.0 add more Muslim unit and more colorful unit for Muslim Faction like Turks, Fatimid, Moor.
Heil dir im Siegerkranz,
Herrscher des Vaterlands!
Heil, Kaiser, dir!
Fühl in des Thrones Glanz
Die hohe Wonne ganz,
Liebling des Volks zu sein!
Heil Kaiser, dir!
Is it possible for them to increase the map size? Get some more of Asia / North America into the map.
Make it medieval global war ;p
More settlements and territories would be fun even if all the new places had to be rebel faction because of the faction limit. Maybe even make the rebel faction a normal AI faction too~~~
Kingdom of Leon should renamed to Castile since after that Leon is union with Castile and use Crown of Castile, so Castile should be better respentative than Leon.

Heil Kaiser, dir!
Just so that everyone is aware, the number of regions/provinces and units is already at the maximum. While we'd all like to see more regions and units, there simply is no room for any more.
Playing the version 6.4 a lot I have only one major wish for the 7 version:
Please let it be expensive to build huge armies so that there are fewer big stacks which means fewer but more significant battles and thus less repetitive gameplay. Endless number of battles ruins the fun.
The historic relism and all the other good stuff I trust you guys take care of.
I almost forgot to mention that I highly appreciate the rewards when helping allies. A superb idea!
PS: Is it possible to make it easier to tell the difference between friend and foe on the battlefield? (I know about the button). A more RTW like battlefield mode would enhance the game.
Yours sincerely

I also like Byzantium. Great challenge in the beginning. I was a bit surprised when starting up and saw that Konstantinopel was in the hands of rebells!?! This was in year 1220 I believe. Is this historically correct? I have found no evidence of such...what you say and this indicates that the modders have made some adaptations.

Byzantium a challenge?!? Especially in the beginning of the game it is one of the easiest factions to play due to its size, massive economy, port tradings and some of the best early units in the whole game. It get's only challenging once the late period strikes and the European factions get all the highly armored foot troops and the fatamides defeat the turks for good.
Seriously! Which difficulty do you play? I play H/H and have been attacked from absolutely all directions. First the Seljuks, then the Venezians, the Sicilians, not to mention Hungary. It has been a constant struggle to survive and the rescue have been to win the battles although sometimes I have have had very little money to buy troops for. If that ain't a challenge, what is? It is first now in 1277 that I can hope to take Thessaloniki and thus end the worst storm from Hungary. That is if the not the Fatimides turn against me (allies), or the Golden Horde attacks. Then I am in major trouble...

Difficulty: always H/VH. Try not to expand your cities at all with taxes. Keep all taxes tight and high, build mainly economic buildings and some military buildings in fortresses. Within 20 turns you're swimming in florints, as long as you sent out the usual diplomats and garantuee the trade agreements as well as sue for peace with the west if you can. If not just turtle west and attack east, the AI has huge problems with attacking cities and castles, making a defense strategy really simple (especially easy in SS since so many units are FREE UPKEEP within cities and castles, so you can mega stack your cities fast). Another 30 turns and the turks are pretty well beaten silly and now you can turtle again and expand your cities, build up that economy high and mighty. After 10-15 turns time for another expansion, your choice which direction, I usually go west because the golden horde rarely makes it further than the Oman territories (they pretty much just replace the Omans and then get replaced themselves by the timurides). Your greatest threats only arrise in late game from either the Fatamides or one major Christian faction that swallowed hungaria etc. But by then you should be well supplied with money so you can just outstack them.
If you want a challenge play turks, those guys are proper ed by Byzantium, Fatamides, Oman AND the Golden Horde if they expand to fast into east territories. Not to mention always the threat of a crusade that eliminates all trade with the west.
I did not ask for advise;-).
I have a house rule that says I can not build what I want in a city without a governor, to make things more difficult of course. In the beginning there are few governors and I lost several as generals in the beginning. Thus I struggle longer to get on top of the situation.
The first time I am "swimming in Florines" is after I took Greece from Hungary and the rebell faction. Thessaloniki fell about the year 1280. Now I make about 16000 Florines per turn. What do you mean by "AI has huge problems with attacking cities and castles"? Sicily had no problems taking Durazzo a couple of times. It was week though. I think the AI behave rather sensible but use forts to a very small degree and are also unable to brake a port blocade. That is why I don't use it either.
What is the difference between H and VH on the battlefield, or was it campaign?
I would never be tempted to play a Muslim faction but maybe HRE which I have never tried and seems to be crushed from all sides. It was the first faction to be destroyed in my game.

Wasn't really meant as advice, just as a practical example to illustrate easy it is to dominate in the early SS campaign with Byzantium. Also this is the first time you mention that house rule of yours, and of course you can make things always harder for yourself (mine for example is that I don't erradicate and protect as many factions as possible) - so I was still running under the assumption we are talking about regular SS gameplay. And I don't want to diss players who like Byzantium in any way, I personally like playing it too, just calling it a challenge kinda rubbed me the wrong way when there are so many other factions around that really struggle from the get-go.
HRE can be quite hard, depending on how diplomacy goes and how many trade agreements you can secure for good. But give the muslims a try, they are really interesting to play and battles tend to often run differently than the typical European line up.
Just a wish for the 7.0 version; Please keep the fantastic music and sound effects from the firs Medieval Total War like you have done in the 6.4. version. It's in my opinion the most athmospere creating sounds and music in the TW series.

I should of course have mentiond the house rule. I could no figur out yours though
Which faction is in your opinion the hardest you have played?
You also stated H/VH. Which is campaign and which is battlefield?
Not sure this dicussion belong here since I assume it all started with a comment wether Bysantium start situation was historcally correct or not in the 6.4 version started by Proud2BGreek....

Thanks a lot! I got much infomation through Wikipedia that confirm your infomation and the fourth crusade seem to have been the beginning of the end for Byzantium. A horrible crime towards humanity aswell . By "christian" crusaders. Not a lot of christian values amongst them.
