    Preview II: Gameplay Features II

    The Stainless Steel team proudly presents the second line of gameplay features. Remember folks, this is not everything we have!

    Re-emergent Factions

    A feature well-known from the first Medieval: Total War is coming back to life in Stainless Steel.
    Defeated factions will have a chance to appear again on the campaign map, however only if the local population will support them!
    Remember to treat your newly conquered regions well... as over-expansion might bring many rebellions in your land.
    Its outside KRAKOW because the screenie was made during testing...



    Interactive Festivals

    Festivals in the middle-ages were important events. They brought trade, allowed the local population to relax for the few days and could seal the importance of even small settlements.
    SS will represent these events with one-turn buildings that can pack a hell of a bonus, but are not always successful.



    Ally Assistance

    Helping an ally might pay off - and greatly! Once an military assistance pact is signed with one of your allies, the council of nobles will reward you for any enemy army defeated on the field of battle. Think friendship, think brothers... think greed!



    Controllable Inquisitors

    The presence of an Anti-Pope or a Patriarch within your realm will grant you the service of an inquisitor. These handy folks can not only set trial for enemy generals and agents... they can also trial your own people! Inquisitors are exceptionally skilled in the presence of a heretic - however a failed denonouncement attempt on a witch can scar them for the rest of their lives.



    Godlike Difficulty

    Massive change was bestowed upon the very hard difficulty. Games on that difficulty are only saved once every turn, with an additional save granted every second turn (not stackable ) and the console disabled permanently. The battle handicap system known from Total War: Shogun 2 also makes it way to the godlike difficulty, with battle orders issuable only while the game is not paused, and the radar map being maximized.



    Autopillage

    Depending on the attributes of your generals, some characters will not be able to pillage or exterminate settlements, while others might not have the possibility to occupy them peacefully! The leader of your faction will not have the option to autoresolve battles.
    This will work only on higher difficulty levels (>= hard).
    And a load of thanks to Aikanár and Gigantus for the idea!



    Remember, that this is not everything we have ready for SS7.0!

    Like most, I'm really impressed.

    However, I am a little bit unsure about the auto-pillage feature (though I think it will grow on me quickly) and the inability to autoresolve the monarch's battles. That last one seems like it should be optional. I don't want to sound too critical of the team's work, but isn't it possible that this could result in some technical issues (for people who want to be able to play on H/VH)? For people who have lower end PCs, it might force them to fight battles/sieges that are barely playable because of their engine. Also, I know that for a long time while playing SS 6.3 (I think), I couldn't fight land battles against some of the eastern catholic factions because of a bugged out unit that caused a CTD. Just some thoughts.

    But again, I'm really impressed with all these new features. Can't wait.

    Great features!

    Good idea to reward the player for for helping his allies!
    I donīt know if I want to use the no-orders-pause-thingy but I can understand it.

    It's ruling, not ruleling. GOD, you people are such amateurs! ;P

    Just wondering, do people really want the 'cannot pause on the battle map' option? That to me sounds like a deal-breaker.

    But my snark aside, this just keeps looking better and better. I can't wait to give it a try, and Ally Assistance sounds like it could be well and truly awesome. If the AI can defend it's friends as well, it could make expansion much harder...which I like.

    Its called Godlike Difficulty for a reason. Lots of vets never pause, along with anyone who plays MP.

    It was a question, not a complaint (although I can see how the deal-breaker may be taken the wrong way/poor choice of wording). I've never heard people espouse the benefits of playing without the pause, hence why I asked. Everything else seemed in-line with what I'd consider 'Godlike', and is pretty much how I play with BG already.

    Some MPers consider anyone who uses pause to be a bad player. I remember a thread about it once.
