Yes, it is. Did you verify the game cache after deleting them?

Well I have tried a re-install or two, but haven't tried deleting just those and re-verifying yet. I'll give that a shot. I have slow internet out here, so it'll probably be a little while,

    Quick update:

I went ahead and deleted all the files listed in the modified.txt. First thing I noticed, is that the first two entries weren't anywhere to be found. All the other lines I could find and deleted them. For giggles I loaded Shogun to see if it would have any effect, and it loaded a little further along this time. It didn't get past the first splash screen, but the cursor did change to the Shogun 2 cursor at least.

I loaded it again and let it sit for a few minutes longer and it made it to the main menu, but the graphics were messed up. Well, the graphics weren't there. It was just a black background with some grayed out blocks where the menu items are. I have Steam verifying the cache right now.

Hello All, I am not able to play Shogun Total War either. I have uninstalled the game and re-installed it and allowed Steam to do its 6 hour update (twice). This has been very frustrating. It goes to the very first screen and it just sits there. The cursor changes but there is an invisible box in the middle of the screen where the cursor changes back into the regular windows cursor. The only way to exit the screen is to hit escape key. A message pops up saying that Window had a problem and it needed to shut it down (the game). Even after I re-installed it. I have tried the suggestions on here. I do have Google Chrome on now, but I did uninstalled it and it fixed nothing, so I re-installed it. I have updated my drivers to the best of my ability, which isn't very high, does anyone know of a program that is absolutely free at finding newer driver for updates? I only see the ones that you have to pay for after you install it. I do not want to do a system restore but to me it is looking like it may be my only hope.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I posted this in another thread but it might be more helpful here:
On the official forums quite a few people with this problem found it was fixed by running adwcleaner. I had the same problem of shogun 2 not starting and tried it and it fixed the problem for me. Note, one of the files it cleaned up was a google chrome file.

I'm not sure if this is at all related to my issues with Shogun 2, but I have a toolbar that appears with Chrome; the toolbar is for Norton antivirus. I don't have Incredibar, but I wonder if the two are somehow similar. Could this Norton toolbar be interfering with Chrome in such a way as to disrupt Shogun?
