Can you describe how you proceeded?

The author of the tool hasn't been active sine 2013, so it's unlikely the pictures will get replaced.

I'm getting confused with the tool. When I start the tool and load a mod, it opens a DOS to check all the files. After all the files were checked, I get this message at the end: "Some errors found, but we can live with that." And then the tool closes.
Does that mean I have to change/modify some files or what?

Looks like there was something that the tool couldn't live with after all. Normally the DOS window won't close after that message, in fact it has to remain open if you want to work with the tool - DO NOT CLOSE IT!

Those errors could be some non-essential linkage, eg pics to units

Merging text files usually appends one file to the other - eg the target file content is at the top, and the other file's content at the bottom. Considering that this might create duplicate entries and exceed the 500 entry hard coded limit it is not recommended.

Rather copy\paste. But then why not make a copy of the target file and edit directly in there if it is only edits?

How did you delete the unit, eg did you use the tool to do it? If so, please describe the steps and when the tool crashed.

Please check if the EDU file is write protected.

Then something might be the problem with the EDU file, possibly some formatting.

Well after playing around with it, the editing unit seems to work, but the editing of BMDB doesn't work at all. I tried to add units to other factions and I only get silver surfer... any idea why @Gigantus? I'm very looking forward to solve this issue. If it can help, here's the files, one that has been modified and the other that hasn't.

I do not know if I will be able to solve my problem, but I doubt that there is a better source than this one to help me and anyone who has the same difficulties. I will keep you informed, but of course it requires a good reading and a lot of testing, so it may takes a while.

    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...syntax-checker

p.s. I do not know if I will have permission, but I thought about writing a tutorial on this subject if my studies of this document and my tests are conclusive, since I feel the topics that are about this file are not satisfactory or very clear. It may also be a mere copy/paste of the one found in the link I shared, but since I didn't read it in its entirety, I'm not sure yet and the reason being that it is not present on this platform... which I find odd since TWC is THE reference for all TW games. Anywho, one thing at a time! Bonne soirée!

silversurfer - that's a age old giggle , it simply means that your unit does not have a texture entry in the modeldb file for that faction.

I left a number of links in the other thread you raised the issue.

Yeah I find out the hard way I must admit. I know there's a couple of tutorial or thread about this file, but I guess I didn't find them until I started to make my tutorial. x) So I made it regardless of what I found and even if its a pointless one it gave me more insight by making it and working on it. So I publish it. You can delete it if its not necessary to have it on the forum. Thank you anyway.

It's fine - it will be the first concrete info to pop up if someone bothers to use the search function to look for 'silversurfer'

When I save my battle_models after using this tool it turns the file into a mdb.txt file. Can I put this file into the unit models and it will work? if not how do I convert a txt file into a .modeldb file?
