Having vassals almost break the game. You get most of their surplus finances, which combined with the AI finances scripts mean you'll get loads of money constantly.
Ballistas can have their use, depending on the situation. For instance, they can be very overpowered in siege defense. Have a couple of spearmen tie the enemy down, and then have your ballistas fire into the blob of enemy units. Result is quite a lot of dead enemies per shot.

    Elephants:
Point your Ballista with fiery bolts at them and watch them running amok!

    Siege defence:
If enemy is shooting at your walls put your ballista out and shoot at the catapults/siege equipment.

The only real use i have found for vassals is to secure a border indefinitely. However that faction will normally opt for utter destruction then vassal-ship and by the time they do accept it they are normally down to 1 or 2 settlements.

Ballistas really aren't worth the effort, just to inaccurate. Catapults and the exploding barrel things are the best for anti-units.

The stack spam will let them produce really big armies in this situation ( compared to their kingdoms size )!

catapults arn't usefull against units, especially in siege and bridge battles. Mangonels perhaps, as long as the barrels don't explode 1 second after they're launched... I hate that...

both ballista and catapults make a killing when you defend in a siege. place first the ballista and behind it the catapult (both on fire & fire at will) on the townsquare as far from the enemy as possible; then make two hedges with spearman on guard (so they won't get in the shooting path), so that the enemy will engage them rather than your ballista or catapult. Use your general or other cav to engage any units that might get through to your ballista or catapult. If you plan it right, they can both get up to +5 experience from the amount of men they kill, and are devastating to the morale of your oponent.

Ballistas are ridiculously good in the city square and defending against bridges. The key is aim at the back of their line.

Never tried ballistas, but mangonels are very very very effective, specially against a very large army.
Cassius: "Our men at arms have secured the city. We've received representatives from all the best elements. The senate is with us, the knights are with us."
Brutus:"The pontifs, the urban cohorts, the lictors guild..."
Antony: "Oh, the lictors guild, very good. Only rally the bakers and the flute players and you can put on a festival."

It's half of their income, and should be seen by the positive income from diplomacy.

I like Ballistas. I use my catapults to bring down walls and then put my Ballistas in a position where they have a nice shot on units covering up the hole the Catapults made; the result? A lot of dead enemy units, allowing my Infantry to come in and finish the job off.

I was just joking, although I guess it's easy to not get it. Take it as a revenge for your acronym use.

The EDU is the export_descr_units file and the EDB is the export_descr_buildings file. Both are in the SS6.3/data folder.
