Despite galloping out of camp as soon as Christain got over the first crest he slowed to a walk, his survival depended on the speed of his excellent horse, something not to be squandered on impatience.
He went north north east, into the unknown where most of the reports of Saxons were coming from the direction of Lincoln, if the Saxons army to attack them here was from Lincoln they had to be in this direction.
Christain was careful, he went slowly, keeping to the open and away from gullies of forested areas, before each rise he would slow, often dismounting and crawling to the crest to peer over.
It was slow going, but it would keep him alive.
