Denethor:

'Then Denethor leaped upon the table, and standing there wreathed in fire and smoke he took up the staff of his stewardship that lay at his feet and broke it on his knee. Duilin & Derufin:

'The axes hewed Forlong as he fought alone and unhorsed; and both Duilin of Morthond and his brother were trampled to death when they assailed the mûmakil, leading their bowmen close to shoot at the eyes of the monsters.'

Gollum:

'"Precious, precious, precious!" Gollum cried. "My precious! O my precious!" And with that, even as his eyes were lifted up to gloat on his prize, he stepped too far, toppled, wavered for a moment on the brink, and then with a shriek he fell. Out of the depths came his last wail 'Precious', and he was gone.

Radbug:

'"You won't go again, you say? Curse you, Snaga, you little maggot! If you think I'm so damaged that it's safe to flout me, you're mistaken. Come here, and I'll squeeze your eyes out, like I did to Radbug just now."'

Ufthak:

'"She's got more than one poison. When she's hunting, she just gives 'em a dab in the neck and they go as limp as boned fish, and then she has her way with them. D'you remember old Ufthak? We lost him for days. Then we found him in a corner; hanging up he was, but he was wide awake and glaring. How we laughed! She'd forgotten him, maybe, but we didn't touch him - no good interfering with Her."'

I voted for Denethor, although from what I know how spiders feed themselves - they inject acid into their victims, wait till they have melted and then suck the liquidified bodies out - Ufthak´s death would probably be pretty unpleasant as well.

me to for Ufthak!!!i just hate spiders!!!although tramped down by a Mumakil isn't something pleasant,but at least it is a swift death,no suffering!

Meh, by the time Gollum understood his faith he was already unconcious and consumed by the fire.

Ufthak probably had the scare of his life whilst running from Shelob, only to be given a "dab in the neck" by the monstrosity.

Having your eyes stabbed out isn´t exactly lethal, though I suppose it´s unpleasant enough.

Well I think with melting it depends on how long it takes untill you're melted.. Still the nastiest death to me.

denethors is the most spectacular imo (considering the movie), being trampled by a mumakil seems like a pretty swift death (unless of course one is as sadistic as to imagine that the person concerned has only had his legs crushed) being melted...well the enormous heat may have killed (choked) gollum before he ever touched the lava (movie not very credible that way....LotR credible lol), eyes gouged out seems like some 'outch' to me...but not necessarily lethal...concerning shelob i have a question: does she stun her prey and then wait for the effect of the poison to wear off before she begins her meal or....?
