I prefer making my own famous ships.

The different ironclads present in the game, are, to be frank, wildly different in design and function.

The Kotetsu was a ram vessel, with only three (but massive) guns, a byproduct of several battles won by ramming between Italy and Austria in the previous decade which was already starting to fall by the wayside tactically in this time period.

The Roanoke is a converted wooden frigate which was only passably seaworthy, a coastal defense ship really, whose hull was too weak to endure sustained firing from its guns. But then it has turreted guns, and no real ramming capacity.

The Warrior was an ironclad ship of the line; it's guns were broadsides with few movable deck guns, but was otherwise a very well balanced ship, but built on an increasingly outdated concept of fixed gunnery.

The Ocean class ironclad is somewhat like the Warrior, but historically had a smaller number of heavier guns, obscenely heavy armour and suffered from stability issues due to the combination of immense armour weight and extremely heavy guns. It also had a ram, and a very low profile at sea.

Ultimately, I don't think the Kotetsu by itself would be a sufficient vessel to base a fleet on; it's armament is simply too light, so it has to rely on ramming or boarding, not something I'd be comfortable doing against the armament of the other Ironclads.
Therefore, I conclude, that Valve should announce Half Life 2 Episode 3.

It's been in several screenshots and gameplay videos, so I'm assuming it's there.

And what ships would the Kotetsu be compared to at this time, really? I would think it had some advantage over the more common monitors the Union was using if it was considered to be so formidable by every navy that used or encountered it.

It's easy to go for war, but it wasn't easy when we needed to ask for peace.

I wonder if this ironclad will be included as well, the Ryujo. It didn't fight in the Boshin War as it wasn't delivered to Japan until 1870.

One interesting thing with this time period is naval warfare was advancing extremely quickly; a ship would generally be obsolete by the time it was launched all the way until the launching of the Akagi as an Aircraft Carrier in 1922, marking the beginning of the end of the role of Battleships. 1850 until 1905 or so was the busiest time period, with at least half a dozen completely different designs and evolutions in warships, going from iron-plated wooden hulled Ships of the Line with basic screw props or paddle wheels, to the HMS Dreadnought in a single generation. CA could have a great deal of freedom in terms of ships included, it all depends on how much they want to limit the time frame.
Therefore, I conclude, that Valve should announce Half Life 2 Episode 3.

It did feature in napoleon, you just had to buy a DLC, or take a 106 gun ship and rename it HMS victory . I never understood why people want specific ships in TW games, sure there famous but does that warrent them being better then other warships of the same class?
    My mods
-Mod Leader for the Wheel Of Time This is not the beginning, but it is a beginning
-Mod Leader for Shogun 2: Foreign Invasion if you want a mod with alot of units this is for you, not only is there the 40 units CA made theres planned to be atleast 177 NEW units when its done.
-Modder in the World War I and Shogun II project. The only full scale mod for FOTS and it plays nothing like FOTS. FOTS may have Gatling guns, WW1&S2 has tekidanto samurai, SNLF, MGs, kisho snipers, assault infantry(shotguns) just to name a few.

Exactly. I prefer to make my own ships anyway. I like them having a story behind them that I made.

    Looks awesome. Can't wait!

Quick question. I see the 2 sides were the Shogunate and Imperial. Now is there two mains sides on FotS or will there be many different factions?

    Thanks!
