do you play a vanilla or modded version of Empire Total War

Vanilla - Apart from Bugs,the occasional crashes and a stuttery campaign map, theres nothing wrong with the game. Unlike medieval 2 total war - I don't really feel the need to modify or play a modified version of Total war games from Empire onwards.

Finally just this hour conquered the entirety of the campaign map in Empire with Prussia - what happened to total domination victory?

I played vanilla M2 for months before getting bored with it. Sure, siege battles were lame half of the time, but that just made the field battles all the more fun, and after a while I could easily ignore hard sieges (enemy troops outside the city mostly). Then I got SS and the game became godly.

Playing vanilla Empire became so grindy halfway through the campaign it felt like I was feeding my frontal lobe to a paper shredder.

Right now I´m incorporating my own little modifications into Empire Total War.
Wouldn´t be possible without the terrific tools made by honourable members of the community.
Certainly the whole concept of modding is revaluating Empire Total War.
I won´t buy the next Total War Game in the Series till some level of moddability for the upcoming title is established.

i assume that ishas taken you morethan 200 turns, if it has, then technically you have lost as you have to have 40/50 regions by the year 1800, in vannilla=200 turns

No, I won the actual campaign objectives by 1770ish turns, but yeah it took me quite a while to take every last territory. There are something like 137 regions in all i think. I kept playing in the hopes that I would get a total domination victory. Nevermind, enjoyed it all the same.

Modded. Didn't get Empire right away so by the time I did it was fairly well patched and I spent a while playing pure vanilla. However, before long I went with mods that improved the experience. Like some others here, that meant things like AUM3.2 and various other unit packs/re-skins, blood and smoke mod, flags mods... just to finish Empire off and make it more fun visually and to expand unit rosters. So far nothing like DMUC. Haven't felt the need to do that yet. Content with vanilla in terms of AI and basic gameplay for the most part. I think the limited unit rosters were the most disappointing for me but that is no longer a problem. Hoorah!

On to answering your question, as I owe you such, but in all honesty I'm divided. Normally I like vanilla with Empire, but only because I'm not up to the major and extreme changes made by some mods such as Darthmod, a good one don't get me wrong, which increases unit sizes, changes flags, adds music (which, sometimes unfortunately, not to the theme), when I all I want from a mod is altered diplomacy and the removal of handicaps on the AI.

But I do love mods, Stainless Steel has a special place in my heart from Med II. It's just sometimes it seems some mods over complicate things.

I like Stainless Steel for Medieval II too. Of the big modifications for Empire I prefer DMUC,
A Proper Empire and Imperial Splendour.

I'm currently using DMUC as Great Britian, and before this I used Imperial Splendour as Russia. Most of my time that I've played though has been un-modded versions of the game though.

I currently play vanilla. I am downloading (4th attempt) DMUC, but I have a horrendous net connection at home, so it keeps getting stuck (torenting). I wanted to play through all the nations in Van before moving to a mod. I don't think I'll mess around with Russia, Poland and Sweden though. Yawn.

However in DMUC, I believe I will begin with Russia. I will try to get this done after my UP 1750 World dom quest finishes up and things let up a bit at work.

I watched a few YT vids on Imperial Splendour vs DMUC. Didn't see many else with the same potential for utter mayhem and epicness, so that will be my choice.

Like I edit the turns per year as I belong to the slow players....I have some blood and smoke mod and will play my next campaign with additional units for more diversity

Yes I find just having more units adds so much to the game and makes it feel like each faction is unique.
