Peasant Spear men - While the more expensive Halberd is reserved for Freedmen peasants and the poor are restricted to the much cheaper spear. They provide a defensive role in the Parisian army thanks to their large shields. (Soldier/Medium Infantry)
Peasant Crossbowmen - The crossbow is the favored ranged weapon of the army and many peasants are trained how to use it in support of the infantry. (Soldier/Crossbowmen)
Ducal Knights - The real force of the Parisian army is in it's Knights. These men act as battering rams for the army, smashing through enemy formations with impunity. As such they have a fearsome reputation across Europe (Guard/Heavy Cavalry/Unique)

History
Despite it's initial small size the Duchy of Paris quickly became the preeminent power in Northern France. In the year 800 it only controlled the city of Paris and a small part of the surrounding area. It's fortunes changed when in 802 AD the Grand Duke of Paris entered a Personal union with Orleans and the area became Parisian territory, he allocated the territory of Orleans to his cousin to rule. However the other nobles also wanted territory and the Grand Duke responded by leading a conquest of nearby land which were known as the Counties of Loire and Picardie. The most important gain for the Duchy came in 912 AD when it waged a war with the nearby Duchy of Champagne and conquered it. This doubled the size of the Grand Duchy overnight and since then Champagne became the largest and most important region of the state.
Later gains throughout the 10th century when a war with Normandy led to the annexation of a region that became known as the Duchy of West Normandy and finally gave the Grand Duchy a coastline. The latest gain has been the small County of Melun which was an enclave of the Grand Duchy for many years before being annexed in 992 AD.
